The Hawk Report
Christa McAuliffe MS Parent Newsletter - Week of Feb. 6
A Message From Our Principal, Mr. Lemon
Greetings Hawk Nation Parents and Students,
This semester is moving rather quickly... can you believe it is February already? Time really does fly when you're having fun. Our Hawk scholars are working really hard each day preparing for STAAR which is coming soon. As a campus, we are hosting Interim STAAR testing so that students have exposure to the new STAAR format, and our teachers have an idea of where our students are so we can provide targeted intervention and support. Our Hawks will be ready for this year's STAAR test!As we continue our journey into the Spring Semester, we ask that you keep the following important updates in mind:
- "Teen Vaping Crisis." Across our community vaping is becoming a popular phenomenon amongst our youth. From vapes containing flavored nicotine to liquid THC, teens are using these easily found devices, not knowing the dangers that they can face both physically and criminally. Please join us as we educate our parents on ways to combat vaping at home and in the community, Thursday, February 9th in the Cafeteria. (See the flyer below for more information).
- Tardy Sweeps. When a student is late to class, valuable time is lost for them to transition and get their mind focused on the new class. With that in mind, we will be conducting random Tardy Sweeps each day to encourage students to get to class on time. Students caught in the hallways after the tardy bell, without a pass, and a tardy sweep has been called, will receive an after school detention. Please speak with your student about the importance of getting to class on time.
- Dress Code Reminder. As it gets colder we understand that the dress of our students has to change. Please be mindful that while leggings are aloud, they must have a shirt or dress that comes midthigh, fully covering their backside. Also, jeans that have holes, rips, or tears that are above midthigh should have shorts or leggings underneath them. Hoods are not allowed in the building. Students out of dress code will have to call home to retrieve a change of clothes. Please help us ensure our scholars are properly dressed for school.
- Progress Report 5 Posted Last Week. Please review your student's Skyward account and make sure that all grades are passing (70 and above). We are encouraging students to strive for A's & B's as we know that our Hawks are more than capable of high academic success. Should you have a question or concern about your student's grade, please contact the classroom teacher.
- Attendance Matters! Each instructional day is filled with new material and additional opportunities for student growth. It is essential that we have our Hawk Scholars in attendance each and every day, for the entirety of the day. Please remember that Texas has a 90% rule that states that a student must be in attendance 90% of the time to receive credit for a course. Should an emergency or illness arise and your student must be out, please be sure to send a note to Ms. Katrina Taylor, CMMS Attendance Clerk, at Katrina.Taylor@fortbendisd.com, so that the absence can be excused.
- The first week back we reviewed our campus expectations to ensure our Hawks continue to be Hawk PROUD. Feel free to review the presentation with your student, and continue to encourage them to make good choices each and every day.
Let's continue to work together, and please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any questions or concerns. Remember, we are Hawk Nation... Hawk Proud!

Mandatory Student IDs Are Here!
Students will be required to visibly display their Student ID badge, on the grade-level colored lanyard provided, around their neck, with the picture clearly visible. They are not allowed to deface the ID in anyway, or else they will need to purchase a new one. Students badges will provide access to the following services within the building:
- Cafeteria meal payments
- Library services
- Entrance to campus events (dances, PBIS events, etc.)
In the event that a student reports to school without his/her ID, they will receive a temporary wristband upon entry into the building. After receiving 3 temporary wristbands, students will be required to purchase a new badge for $5.00. ID fees can be paid via RevTrak.
Should you have any questions regarding ID badges, please contact Mr. Brandon Woodard, Assistant Principal, at Brandon.Woodard@fortbendisd.com.
