UALC Program Secretary - Marsha Smith

Marsha comes to UALC with eighteen years of legal career experience, two adult children, and two grandbabies.

Marsha says, “she appreciates the opportunity to be at UALC, is excited for this next chapter in life, and will do my very best to be a great team player and help in any way possible.” She feels she has had a great start, thanks to the program leaders, staff, teachers, and is overall blessed to be surrounded with all their knowledge and expertise. Marsha says, “everyone has been so helpful, nice and grateful and that is so appreciated.” Marsha would like to give a big thanks to her sister, who also works for the Union district, as she would not have known about, or applied, without her help. She also wants to thank everyone who has helped in this endeavor.

ESL Transitional Teacher - Amal Abdelghany

My name is Amal Abdelghany. I am a teacher at the UALC. I am married and have 3 children. I am originally from Egypt. I speak Arabic as my native language as well as English and French. I graduated from Cairo University with a major of Journalism and I also have a masters degree in Cinematography. I worked as a movie director in Egypt for about 17 Years, and continue to do so as a freelancer. I was also a professional ballet dancer at the Cairo Opera house for 12 years. I have lived in the United States for about 23 years. I became a teacher in 2018 and have worked in the UALC since then. I love helping adults learn English and watching them progress in the language and what effect it has on their lives. Since all my students are adults, I have made a lot of friends and know a lot about different cultures and languages from many places around the world, and as I am an ESL person myself, I feel that I have something in common with them. My job is so challenging and that is why I love it. My hobbies are all artistic. I love dancing, all kinds of craft and DYI projects, and traveling. I enjoy reading very much, especially about history. I consider myself a new teacher and would like to continue learning and growing in experience and be able to help more students achieve their goals.
