Mischievous Mummies
in the JLC Class
Mummies in the Morning
This week, the JLC Campers began reading the 3rd book in Mary Pope Osborne's Magic Tree House Series: Mummies in the Morning. Our class traveled back in time to Ancient Egypt during our reading and class activities. Check out some of our activities below:
Hieroglyphics
Stop in our class to try and decipher some messages the children have drawn! Can you guess which hieroglyph belongs to which child?
Mummifying
The children followed the written picture directions...
Ancient
...to wrap their "pharaoh's"...
Pharaoh's
...and place them in their sarcophagus'.
Wrapping a Mummy!
Sistrum
The children made an ancient percussion instrument that can still be found today! To the right you will see the sistrum held by an Ancient Egyptian.
Bash the Trash!
This week we had an exciting visit from Bash the Trash! Mr John introduced us to various instruments including those from the percussion, brass, horns, and strings families! The children learned about how music is created through vibrations and how shorter areas produce higher notes while longer areas produce lower notes. Most importantly, we learned how to reduce trash by reusing junk to make our very own instruments!

Happy Birthday
Nathan!

Next week we will continue to read the final 5 chapters in the book: Mummies in the Morning.
