A Message from Dr. Hicks
Hello Cougar Nation,
It's officially summer vacation. Our last week of school was packed with activities and student celebrations and culminated with our graduation ceremony Thursday night. It was a bittersweet moment to see our students end their high school journey, but we're excited to see where the next chapter takes them. One thing is certain, they will always be Cougars, and their Cougar family will always be here for them.
While we were able to celebrate the accomplishments of our students, the tragedy in Uvalde CISD weighed heavily on our minds and hearts. It's been a week since the shootings took place, and during this time, our staff and district administrators were able to process what happened. While we can't make sense of it, we are learning from it.
Student and staff safety is our number one priority. We are meeting with members of law enforcement this week to evaluate our existing procedures. We are confident in our current safety measures, but as technology evolves, we want to ensure we have the most up to date security features. Currently, Jarrell ISD has a district-wide school resource officer and an anonymous alert system that allows everyone to report suspicious activity. In addition, parking lot attendants patrol the area at Jarrell High School. All exterior doors at every campus are locked and this summer, we are adding additional security cameras at all our campuses. Please know we work in partnership with local law enforcement to review, refine, and develop additional safety protocols and procedures.
We will share as much security information with you as possible without compromising our protocols. Be well and enjoy your week.
