Facilities Update
February 6, 2017
Dear Community Members!
I hope you are enjoying the bright sunshine on this Monday afternoon.
Below are pictures and comments from Eastwood Elementary School.
Hope you enjoy!
Front of Building
We finally have the building enclosed and by the end of the day today, it will all be in the dry. There is one section of temporary roofing that will be completed today. Good news considering how much rain is expected tomorrow.
Display Case
This main display case will be visible to students when they enter the building and go to the gym and cafeteria. Looking forward to highlighting student work!
View Down Hall By Entrance
When you enter the building, there is a main entry hallway with decorative columns that match the exterior and the opening for the stage. There is also a large window that will allow in natural light.
Classroom Pictures
1st Grade from the Door
All of the Kindergarten (K) and 1st grade rooms have a 1st coat of paint, The windows and lights have also been installed. By the end of next week cabinets will be delivered and installation will start after President's Day.
1st Grade from the window
As you look back you can see the entry and the bathroom. Each K and 1st grade room will have their own bathroom. This will improve time on task!
Computer Lab
While the K and 1st grade rooms have a finish coat of paint, many other rooms like art and music have the first coat of primer which also serves as a block filler. This lab will be used to teach tech skills as part of a specials rotation for all K-5 students.
More Classroom Shots
5th grade rooms
Now that the roof decking is on the 2 story academic wing, the 5th grade rooms will be getting ready for their concrete slab over the floor decking. Soon metal studs and drywall will be going up in the rest of the area.
Media Center
The Media Center will be at the core of the academic areas of the building. It will have natural light and high open spaces. It will be a terrific space for developing the love of reading!
2nd grade
These 2nd grade classrooms will be ready for drywall soon!
While most of the building is concrete block, we do have some walls that will have metal studs and drywall. Typically these are non-bearing walls where we will put the lockers and storage. It provides long term flexibility for spaces as well,
Hallway Shots
Look towards the Media Center
As you can see, more hallways are prepped and ready for finish coats of paint. You can also see some of the piping and metal framing for some of the decorative soffits.
Looking towards the Gym and Cafeteria
In this major hallway, there are large group restrooms on the left and the gym entrance is to the right. The music room and the cafeteria are also down the hall.
Piping
It is amazing to see all of the piping, wiring, and ductwork running through the corridors in the building.
The Gym
West Wall of Gym
On this wall we will have four rows of bleachers that can serve as seating for student assemblies and performances. This wall is opposite the stage. The floor will be the same size as the middle school so we could use it for competitions if needed.
Lights are in!
South Wall of Gym
You can see some of the accent striping that will circle the gym. When done, this will be an awesome, bright space for our kids!
Proscenium stage opening
From the gym, parents will be able to watch musical and theatrical performances. Our cafeteria will double as our stage with curtains and a backdrop!
The stage will have an operable wall that when open will connect the gym and cafeteria spaces. You can see right now all the way into the cafeteria.
Also, by connecting the two spaces, we can use part of the gym for indoor recess. Trying to maximize every square foot.
Wrap-up
It is hard to appreciate how much is getting done inside the building when you look at it from the road. While we have had to wait for the 2 story classroom wing to get enclosed, the mechanical, plumbing, electrical, technology, painting, and drywall companies have been going like gangbusters inside.
Have a great week and we will have more for you later!
