TFS Weekly Update
June 3, 2018
Dear TFS Faculty & Staff,
14 days of school left, but who's counting?! The A-Z Countdown continues; please keep sending your wonderful photos. The photos help staff members who aren't able to see the wonderful happenings in your classroom get a glimpse of what you and your kiddos are up to. We have continued to share these happenings on Facebook and the website, and have started tweeting some photos, too! Please follow Andrea on Twitter (Principal Simmons @asimmonsCT) to view and retweet, and to connect with other LEARN educators!
Please remember that the DIBELS window is open. For those of you who aren't familiar with DIBELS, it is an individual assessment conducted by kindergarten teachers to help us understand the progress and the needs of our students regarding their early literacy and reading skills. We need substitutes to cover the testing times. Please be cognizant of this when considering using your remaining sick and emergency/necessary time; re-familiarize yourself with the definitions of the use of this time in the employee handbook on page 13 (http://www.learn.k12.ct.us/UserFiles/Servers/Server_106939/File/Employees/Learn%20Employee%20Info%202017/LEARN_2017-2018_Employee_Handbook.pdf). Absences impact students in big ways.
We hope everyone has had a fantastic weekend; we look forward to another fun-filled week at TFS!
Best,
Andrea & Kristen
Celebrations, Updates, and Reminders:
- Contracts/employment agreements have been placed in mailboxes; please contact or see Andrea if you did not receive a contract/employment agreement and are planning to return. Sign one document and return in the interoffice envelope located at Sandy's desk. Keep one copy for yourself.
- Classroom Teachers: Please see Diane Felty's email re: SRBI on June 1. Please open the invitation to your own SRBI drive. Doing so will automatically add your SRBI folder to your team drives.
- Classroom Teachers: Don't forget to complete your placement cards for kiddos as soon as possible (pre-k). Kindergarten teachers - please do one for any student who is going to be retained. See Sandy with your completed cards, or if you need additional cards. Due June 20
- On Monday's "Out Today and Updates," a new playground/cafeteria assistant schedule will be attached.
- Thank you to Ms. Marien for setting up the WHS Orchestra visit for kindergarten! We all enjoyed the experience!
- Shout out to our staff members who have been very flexible in helping with classroom coverage! There have been some urgent situations for staff members over the past week and quick changes in coverage were made - thank you!
- Teachers: You will receive an email with your scheduled end of year conference. It may be during rest time for pre-k teachers; in this case, Andrea or Kristen will come down to your room and we'll meet quietly in your classroom or right outside the door. Be sure to have your end of year form completed for discussion; email the attachment the night before and please contact your evaluator a day in advance if that's not possible. (Appendix A6 http://www.learn.k12.ct.us/common/pages/DisplayFile.aspx?itemId=542855)
- Remember that open toed shoes are not allowed. Additionally, if you work with a child or in a classroom with a child who has been known to bite or otherwise show physical aggression, you need to wear pants. This is for your safety and the safety of all children in the building, and is a requirement that comes via Worksite Safety Committee.
- Please be sure to fill out the Faculty Survey (certified staff members only); link emailed last week (closes 11 pm June 6).
