A Message from Our Principal
It is hard to believe that we are already over a month into this school year and halfway through the first grading period! This is my favorite time of the school year. There is so much going on this time of year, and I encourage you and your student to take the opportunity to be involved in school activities. Football, volleyball, and cross country are all in full swing while the cheerleaders and band are bringing spirit to our stands. The fall provides great opportunities for everyone to support their classmates and school. On October 27, Tuscumbia City Schools will be hosting a Fall Festival in downtown Tuscumbia. There will be booths set up by various clubs and organizations associated with the entire school system. This will be a great event to give back to the community and showcase the many great things going on in our system.
On Thursday, September 8, the first progress report will be available online or through the Parent Portal app. This is a reminder that the school year is already slipping away, and we must make every day count to accomplish the goals of Deshler Middle School. As a district, we are working diligently to make an “A” on the state report card. The middle school administration, faculty, and staff have set out to have the highest score in the district on said report card. In order to accomplish this, it takes all of us: students, parents, teachers, support staff, and administration working together toward these challenging, yet attainable goals.
The team at DMS is dedicated to providing your students with high quality instruction to help them grow academically. This past week we had visitors from throughout our school system in our classrooms to observe our teachers and students in action. These visitors left our school very impressed with what was happening in our building- both instructionally from our staff and behaviorally from our students. The other area that we must improve upon is attendance. We need your help to make sure your student is present at school daily. We realize that sick days and emergency situations occur, but please help us stress the importance in maximizing instructional time through daily attendance. When a student is absent, you must turn in an excuse within three days of returning to school. If the excuse is turned in after the three days, it will remain unexcused per state law. It is also important to remember that each student is only allowed TEN parent notes.
The halls of Deshler Middle School are buzzing with opportunities for every student, every day. We encourage you to join and support us to ensure student success. With our partnership and prioritizing these focus areas of your child’s academic journey, I have no doubt that together we can accomplish this goal.
