Curriculum Update
HOMEWORK:
Please find the blue sheet in your kiddos planner. Blend it Books are coming home this week. Please have your kiddo read them. These books practice the spelling and phonics skill we are working on during the week. Please keep the book(s) at home.
When practicing spelling please make sure your student is writing neatly. Practicing writing neatly at home only reinforces what we are doing in the classroom.
CLASS MEETING:
This week we will be talking about what it looks like to focus and pay attention.
READING
Diary of a Spider is the story from Journeys. This is humorous fiction. You will a lot of funny parts as well as things that could not happen in real life!
WRITING:
Kids did a great job last week on writing in complete sentences. This week we are focusing on the different types of senteces (command, statement, question, exclamation) as well as what are nouns.
Students are filling up their writing journal with stories! Today was a free write day. It is always so much fun to read what they are writing!
MATH:
Chapter 2 in math is all about Numbers to 1,000. We are working on place value (hundreds, tens, and ones). We have talked about different ways we can show numbers:
standard - 123
written - one hundred twenty three
words and numbers - 1 hundred, 2 tens, 3 ones
Expanded notation - 100 + 20 + 3
As you work on math homework be sure to ask your child what the value of a certain digit it. For example, in 123 the value of the 1 is 1 hundred. The value of the 2 is 2 tens or twenty. The value of the 3 is 3 ones.
SCIENCE:
Last week we took a hike on the nature trail while observing solids. It was a fantastic learning experience.
This week we will be continuing to observe solids and identify their properties.
Technology: This week in computer lab students will continue working on their acrostic poem. They are changing fonts, font size, color, as well as adding in clip art.
Physical Education: Just a reminder that our days are on Wednesdays and Fridays. Be sure that your child has appropriate footwear on these days. We do PE with Mrs. White's class.
