Why I chose Autism
I chose Autism because my cousin has it and i want to learn more about how it effects him and whomever may have it. What is Autism? It's a condition or disorder in the brain that makes many basic thoughts complicated.
Autism: A documentary
Symptoms
Causes struggles with communication, forming social relationships, using language and understanding abstract concepts.
Causes
There is no known single cause for Autism, but mainly it is caused by abnormalities in brain structure or function. In many families, there appears to be a pattern of autism further supporting the theory that the disorder is hereditary.
Treatments
Interventions, or therapies, can help reduce symptoms and increase skills and abilities. Although it is best to begin intervention as soon as possible, the benefits of therapy can continue throughout life.
Diagnosis
Presently, there is no specific test that can diagnose autism. Instead, specially trained physicians and psychologists take autism-specific behavioral evaluations. Boys are almost 5 times as likely to have Autism, but why? Scientists speculate that girls are just naturally more adept at hiding their problems.
Population Effects
- Autism is the fastest-growing developmental disorder in the U.S.
- 1 in 68 children and 1 in 42 boys will be born with Autism
- Boys are nearly five times more likely than girls to have autism
- There is no medical detection or cure for autism

What I Learned
I learned that Autism can't be cured or medically diagnosed and it is almost five times more prominent in males than females.
