National Assistant Principal Week
This week we celebrate National Assistant Principal Week. Mr. Altland is one of the best Assistant Principals out there! He is motivated, caring, smart, hard-working, and kind. He does everything he can to support our staff and students at Scott 6th Grade Center. We are so lucky to have him. If you get the chance, please send him an email this week letting him know how much he helps our school. (altlandp@casdschools.org)

March's Student of the Month
Congratulations to our Student of the Month for March, Cordell Dixon!
Cordell has consistently had Golden tickets each month since the beginning of the year. Cordell is doing a great job in his classes as a student and working hard to be a great friend and classmate. He follows our ROCKS expectations every day. Teachers and staff are very proud of the progress that Cordell has made this year. Keep up the great work!
Employee of the Month for March
Congratulations, Ms. Gredzinski! Ms. Gredzinski received a banner to hang in her classroom, and she will be featured in our front hall of fame on the main floor. Mrs. Lamothe will also be washing her car.
Ms. Gredzinski is an amazing member of our Scott team. She often goes above and beyond to help wherever there is need. Ms. G builds relationships with her students and does everything she can to help them succeed. Ms. G is a team player and supports her colleagues whenever she is able to. We are so lucky to have her as part of our Scott family. Thank you for all that you do for our students and staff!
Mr. Gibson, Mrs. Farley, and Mr. Dougherty were runners up and received $5 gift cards to treat themselves to something special. We are so grateful for all of our amazing staff.
Youth Court After School Club
Mrs. Lamothe, with the help of some law students, will be starting an after school Youth Courts Club. It will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:30 to 3:30 in the Library. Our first meeting will be Wednesday, April 12th (As long as there is enough interest).
In youth court students (trained by lawyers, law students and teachers) operate a disciplinary court in school. Students who normally would be disciplined by adults are sent to a youth court within the school. Student youth court members ask questions of the student who violated school rules or norms, deliberate to impose a consequence that holds the student offender accountable for their actions but does not punish them, and if the student offender satisfies the disposition there is no record of the incident. .
Students who operate youth courts learn a lot about the law-both legal concepts and legal practices. They learn about restorative justice which attempts to fix the problem the bad behavior caused rather than punish the student who broke a rule. They learn the roles of a judge, bailiff, juror, jury foreperson and youth advocate (the student who represents and helps the student who got in trouble). They learn how to ask questions to find the facts, identify the harm that was caused, and fix it. They impose tasks the student offender must perform (called a disposition) so the student is held accountable and learns that all actions have consequences. However they also learn a new theory of justice (restorative justice) which is concerned with fixing the harm and avoiding future bad behavior rather than punishing students.
Youth court helps students with behavior problems stay in school and not experience suspension and expulsion. It teaches everyone new skills to reduce conflict. It teaches everyone to speak up and become more comfortable speaking in front of others. Students who run a youth court learn how to work together and create a better school climate/environment which is less prone to bad behavior, conflict and violence.
Youth courts operate in many counties in the Commonwealth, but this will be the first one in Chester County. Youth courts have been shown to be very popular with students, and schools with youth courts have lower rates of students being suspended, expelled or referred to the police.
If you are interested in joining our Youth Court Club, please fill out the Interest Form below.

Nurse's Corner
Just a couple reminders to families:
- Students should not be contacting families to be picked up when they are not feeling well. Students need to be assessed by the nurse and calls home will be made as needed. If families want to be called each time their student comes to the nurse, please email Ann Keenan, school nurse (keenana@casdschools.org). It is not standard practice to call home for non-urgent matters.
- Emergency Health Forms were sent home (lime green). If you did not complete the Emergency Health Information online, you must complete the paperwork and return it to the school nurse.
- Covid 19 is still causing illness and absences. Please continue to test and take precautions to avoid further spread. 5 days of isolation followed by 5 days of well-fitting masks is the current CDC guideline. (see below).
- The school nurse will be starting health screenings (Vision, Growth and Scoliosis). If your student has glasses, please make sure they have them for school.
