Learn facts about CPU's.
What does CPU stand for, what is it and what does it do?
CPU stands for central processing unit. It is the hardware within a computer that carries out the instruction of a computer programme by performing the basic arithmetical, logical, control and input/output operations of the system. The term has been in use in the computer industry at least since the early 1960s. The form, design, and implementation of CPUs have changed over the course of their history, but their fundamental operation remains much the same.
