September 23, 2020
This Friday is our first School Spirit Day, Superhero Day! Students may dress up like their favorite fictional superhero (Batman, Superman, Wonderwomen, etc) or a first Responder Hero (firefighter, police, doctor, nurse, etc). Let's have some fun during your morning zoom meetings!
As you may have heard, ASD is looking at plans to return students to face-to-face instruction with a goal to start on October 19th. This is the proposed plan and could change depending on if the School Board approves, or if the Governor or Mayor issues new mandates.
Our school teams are preparing procedures for parent drop-off and pick-up, bathroom procedures, and classroom procedures. Now is a good time to prepare your child to wear a mask, as that will be the expectation when at school. Masks will also be expected during recess. Our staff will be responsible for keeping our work areas sanitized and teaching/practicing good hand washing hygiene. If you are concerned about returning to face-to-face instruction, please contact me at 245-5530. We recommend families switch to ASD Virtual if students are not able to attend school.
Thank you to our parents and guardians for supporting your children during these challenging times. We realize that you are juggling work, school, and family as you try to navigate your child's schedules and lessons. Some of our families are in the ASD Virtual Homeschool program, others are zooming with Kincaid teachers and using Canvas as the classroom. Some of our families have left to attend other programs. If your family is enrolled in ASD Virtual or another program, please let the school know if you intend to return once we are face-to-face. We are trying to plan in case our class sizes increase.
Please consider taking advantage of the Flu Clinic that is being offered here at Kincaid. We are also encouraging all parents to become a member of our PTA.
Flu Clinic at Kincaid
Free flu shots will be available from 9:00am to 4:00pm at Kincaid Elementary beginning Tuesday, September 29th through Friday October 2nd. We encourage your family to schedule a time on the calendar below. Scheduling groups for specific time slots allows people to be spaced out and helps avoid the formation of lines or crowds.
Click the link below to select a time you desire to bring you family / household members to the school to recieve the flu vaccine. Please try to schedule one slot per family / household. Consent and VIS forms are available through the scheduling calendar. Complete your consent form prior to your appointment, then bring it with you! Make sure to wear a shirt that makes your upper arm easily accessible, as this is where the flu shot is administered.

Are you concerned about your child’s ability to see or hear? Ask about scheduling a vision or hearing screening with the school nurse. I will help coordinate referrals for vision or hearing evaluations when a student does not pass their health screenings.
Consider connecting with your child’s pediatrician if your kiddo will need medication or health services when school starts in-person. Authorization forms, for health services in the school setting, can be found on the ASD Healthcare Services website. I can also request these completed forms (with signed parental permission) from your medical provider after your child completes their annual visit. Please let me know if this is something you would like me to do!
SIDE NOTE: Any medication kept at the school must be in the original container it was sold within. The nurse is not allowed to accept any medications that are unlabeled or outside of their original medication container. Prescription medication must have a pharmacy label on the bottle or box. Over-the-counter medications will be labeled with the student’s name and given per manufacturer instructions.
If you have any questions, the school nurse is always available by phone, email, and zoom. Nursing office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 4:00pm. I am happy to be a resource for families, so please reach out if there is anything you need!
