Monday, August 12th: Orientation!

- Still have questions? Take a look at this Q & A sheet. If your query is still not answered, contact Mrs. Martinez (principal) or Mrs. Stern (office manager) and we'll be happy to help!
Student Handbook
- At Orientation the school will make acknowledgement sheets available. Once you've read through the handbook (which is no War and Peace but might take 30 minutes or so), families should sign the sheet.
- Sheets are due by August 29th: Back to School Night!
Mrs. Martinez's Capital Campaign Update
Seasons of sacrifice are often necessary for seasons of stability and abundance (in sports, farming, finances, spiritual life...you name it!). The school is confident this season of sacrifice and grit will yield great fruit (and a building!) later on. In the meantime, though, we may feel a bit like Mr. Bean as we navigate parking, pick up, and drop off!
Drop-Off and Pick-Up
- Drop off will require parents to use good judgment while dropping off their children in the Upper School parking lot. For now, the Lower School parking lot is only open for construction vehicles. This won't last forever, but for now common sense is the best directive for drop off.
- Pick up will occur at 3:30 in the Upper School parking lot. Teachers will be assisting with traffic direction and cones to guide your way. Please do not park or exit your vehicle in the line of traffic since it will cause a backlog.
P.E.
We have P.E. the very first week of school, which means water bottles and running shoes are great additions to your backpack on P.E. Day!
P.E. Uniform
Please pay special attention to the P.E. uniform. The only carrier for the P.E. uniforms is Dennis Uniforms. This helps the P.E. teacher avoid modesty or usability issues, which in turn keeps the whole P.E. class on track. There's nothing like making your class lose some of its beloved P.E. time because of immodest or impractical clothes! Changing mid-P.E. slows everyone down.
- Please bear in mind that students are not required to purchase P.E. uniforms. As long as they have shoes they can easily run, jump, and play in, their regular uniform is acceptable for P.E.
Q. What day does my student have P.E. class?
A. The days of P.E. for the various classes are listed below. Kindergarten has P.E. twice because you sure have the wiggles when you're new to full school days!
Kindergarten: Tuesday and Wednesday
1st/2nd: Tuesday
3rd/4th: Monday
5th/6th: Monday
7th/8th: Tuesday
Back to School Night
Come to hear more about what your child is learning, see his/her classroom, and hobnob with teachers and fellow parents!

Tech Savvy Help For STAR Testing Set-Up
If you're able to help set up our mobile laptop lap pre-testing or disassemble it post-testing, your help would be very much appreciated! Please contact Mrs. Sanchez or Mrs. Stern to volunteer your services.
When: August 19th (set up for Upper School), August 20th (set up for Lower School), and/or August 20th (take down/put away). All work would be done after school is dismissed for the day.
Why: To help the testing flow smoothly for students and teachers.
What: Moving and plugging in laptops, ensuring the correct link is loaded, and troubleshooting computers that are on the fritz or need updates.
August 28th: Meal for Teachers
When: August 28th at 12:00 PM
Why: To help the teachers while they focus on their in-service
What: Plan, prep, and deliver a meal (preferably with easy clean-up) for 15ish adults.
- One adult is gluten-free.
This opportunity is worth 10 volunteer hours (since it takes time to plan, buy, prep, and deliver) so if you're interested email Mrs. Stern quickly!.
Helping With Technology Needs
If you have "the gift of tech", please consider signing up at Orientation with Mr. Coombs, our local IT expert. He often spends several hours a week (at the very least!) helping the school and its teachers with their technical needs and issues. Growing the team of people able to help him would be a great benefit to the school and spread out some of the load. In particular, he will need help moving our mounted projectors to the new building. He would also like assistance with downloading programs on our computers and connecting them to printers. Please touch base with him at orientation.
