Halloween Celebrations
Halloween celebrations will take place on Monday, October 31st. Students will enjoy their parties in their classrooms on that day.
We will still have our Halloween Parade on Monday, October 31at at 2:30 p.m. The Halloween Parade route will take us outdoors and families are more than welcome to come view the parade outside! More specific details about the parade route will be shared in next week's Eagle Express.
Students can either wear their costume to school or be able to put it on over their clothes to avoid congestion in the bathroom areas.
Please follow these guidelines when planning your child's costume:
- Please make sure the costume is weather appropriate (students will go outside for recess)
- Students are responsible for their costumes not causing a problem during learning time.
- Face make-up, hairspray, etc. must be applied at home.
- No fake weapons of any kind are allowed at school.
- No fake blood and no scary costumes (if it would scare a kindergartener, please don’t wear it!)
Happy Halloween!
Halloween Parade
The parade will take place outside this year on Monday, October 31st at 2:30 p.m. The parade route is highlighted below. Students will walk the parade route on the sidewalk that surrounds the building. Click the picture below to open it in a new window.
Parents are invited to watch the parade. We ask that parents line the parade route by standing in the grassy areas or along the gym wall, so students can walk on the sidewalk.

The next PTA meeting is going to be BIG. So many reasons to attend:
1. Guest speakers Kate Mitchell & Anthony Sciara from the Northville Educational Foundation will present to us.
- Did you know, since 2000, the Northville Educational Foundation has raised and granted over $2.5 million to Northville Public Schools? Anthony Sciara and Kate Mitchell will explain all that NEF does for NPS. They’ll answer questions about school funding and clear up some misconceptions about how local property values affect our district.
2. Meet Jake the Therapy Dog!
- Jake and his handler Marianne Barry will join us for an introduction and tell us more about this amazing program.
3. Big business to work on:
- Hear the proposed PTA programs and activities plan for the rest of the year – This is your chance to weigh in, get involved, or simply learn about the exciting things PTA is planning for our school.
- Committee and chairperson sign up list – Whether you have 1 hour and zero experience -or- a lot of time and talent to give, there are a million ways to get involved. PTA programs only run when parents take the lead or volunteer to help.
- Vote on the amended 2022-2023 budget.
- Teacher stipends – giving back to support our staff!
- Updates on the student directory.
- Pick up your copy of the book “Free-Range Kids” by Lenore Skenazy for the book club discussion happening in February. See below to for more info from Mrs. Booth.
All are welcome and encouraged to attend, but only PTA members may vote and count for quorum during the meeting portion.
The PTA meeting will be Thursday, November 3 at 6:30pm, in person in the media center at Silver Springs. We will also send a link to join virtually via Microsoft Teams (no app or log in required). Our guest speakers will begin after the meeting.
Full meeting schedule is up on the website, so you can mark your calendar!

1. Trunk or Treat THANK YOU!
Thank you to all of the parents and volunteers who helped make Trunk or Treat on Friday massive success!! A special shout out to Laurie Castillo, Lindsay Laiacono, and Mrs. Booth for the all the hard work in advance and at the event. We had TWENTY-THREE trunks decorated and passing out candy. The weather was gorgeous and the turnout was the biggest we can remember.
2. Birthday Lunches
The Birthday Lunch program is a fun way to celebrate your child’s special day and the funds raised from this program directly benefit PTA programs. Win-win! To sign up and select your date, parents may submit a request form and a donation (any amount) to the PTA. Or, it’s even easier to sign up and donate online. On your child’s day, you can come and join them for lunch! Some parents choose to bring a special lunch or a treat. You get to sit at the Birthday Lunch table near the MPR, which will be decorated with a tablecloth, birthday napkins, and party hats. Book now to ensure you get your spot, even if it’s later in the year. Please book at least two weeks in advance to ensure our volunteers are available.
3. New PTA website is your one-stop-shop! www.silverspringspta.com
Our new website has all the info you need, from what we do, what events are coming up, how to get involved, and how to donate.
4. Invest In Your Child
What is Invest In Your Child? IIYC is the one, big, annual fundraiser that supports all the awesome PTA programs, events, and activities benefiting our school and community! Silver Springs PTA simply asks families to make a one-time donation at the beginning of the year. No one is required to donate, and any amount is valued! To learn more about how these funds benefit our school, visit our “Invest In Your Child” page. You can donate online via MemberHub or by sending in the form to school, along with check or cash. Thank you!
5. Join the PTA!
All are welcome, whether you want to be involved hardly at all or a whole lot! Visit our Membership Page for all the details.
6. Let’s be friends IRL and online!
ALL Silver Springs families are invited to join our social media pages - you don’t have to be a member of the PTA to benefit from our updates, reminders, and helpful info. Don’t miss out!

The Silver Springs PTA is excited to produce a student directory for our families this year! We feel that students having others’ contact information helps forge friendships and build our community. There will be two options:
- A print version, which will be available for any Silver Springs family to purchase (with our best efforts to keep cost low, likely $6-10 per copy)
- An electronic version, which will be free to PTA members on the password-protected MemberHub site. Another great benefit of membership!
The directory will be published from the contact information that families already have on file in the MiStar / Parent Connection portal. All students will automatically be included in the directory (unless you opt out).
The contact information that will be included (unless you opt out) will be:
Student First Name, Student Last Name, Student Grade, Student Class Teacher
Parent / Guardian Name(s)
Home Address
Parent Email
Phone Number
Please note: this directory is for personal communication only between Silver Springs families. The directory MAY NOT be used for any commercial, solicitation, or sales purposes.
If you DO NOT want to have your student’s contact information published in the school directory, you may OPT OUT. Compete this form by Friday, October 28 to OPT OUT.
If you do want your contact information printed in the directory, there is no further action. Students will automatically be included.
*If you have a unique circumstance and need to change the information that will be printed (e.g., the child lives at a different residence than the info in your MiStar / Parent Connection portal), please contact Charlene Chu at silverspringsPTA_directory@yahoo.com to request special changes.
Directory coming soon!! Look for announcements in the Eagle Express, on our social media, and the PTA website for print copy sales and more!

K-5 STEAM/Makerspace Potential Expansion
The Board of Education is considering expanding the K-5 STEAM/Makerspace from a one trimester course to a full year course. This shift would mean every K-5 student would have STEAM/Makerspace once a week for the entire school year. In order to facilitate this programming shift, the board will need to consider removing dedicated K-5 Spanish instruction in order to make room for this new opportunity. If you would like to provide public comment, a presentation will be made by the Office of Instruction during the November 1st, 2022 Board of Education Meeting at 6:30 PM as the Board considers this K-5 program change.

LEADER IN ME FOCUS FOR THE MONTH - HABIT 1 BE PROACTIVE
Each month we will send home a 7-Habits activity for students and families to do together. The activity will come home in Monday envelopes and are due at the end of the month.
Please send the completed activities back to school so we can proudly display them in your child's classroom.
November At Home Activity
This month’s Habit: Habit 1 Be Proactive
Activity: Circle of Control
Due Date: November 30th
Habit 1 – Be Proactive – “I’m in Charge of Me”
What this means: Take charge of your own life. Make it happen. Don't wait for someone else to do it.
“I am responsible for me.”
“I do the right thing before I am asked.”
“I do the right thing even when no one is looking.”
“I do not blame others for my actions.”
How can I do this in my life?
1. If you do something wrong, say you are sorry before someone asks you to apologize.
2. When you get mad and want to say something, stop, think, and ask yourself-
Why am I getting so angry? Make a good choice in a good way.

Infectious Disease Response to COVID
2022-2023
Students and staff that contract COVID should follow the Health Department recommendations and isolate for five days from the date where symptoms were present or from the date of their positive rapid or pcr test. Isolation includes waiting to return to school until the isolation period has ended. It is also recommended that students or staff should wear a mask for 5 days past their isolation period.
Parents should notify their child’s school of the absence reason so that teachers are aware of the student's absence period and our nurses can follow the health department’s infectious disease requirements. NPS School Nurses are available should you have any questions.
