Carbs
By: Shruti and Alice p.5
Name of the Monomer and Polymer
Carbs are monosaccharides or more commonly known as simply sugars. The polymers of carbs are Disaccharides, Oligosaccharides, and Polysaccharides.
Examples of Carbs
- Fructose
- Lactose
- Glucose
Functional Groups
Hydroxyl
Carbonyl
Common Functions
They fuel cellular metabolism, they are used in severe bio synthesis reactions , and they are used to provide energy for plant/animal cells.
Structure Functions
Typical carbohydrates are composed of strings or chains of monosaccharides (chains of
individual sugars.) These simple crabs are than absorbed by the small intestine. Since it is in simple sugar form as it gets to the small intestine, it has to undergo no chemical reaction before hand.
