Principal's Message

Dear Parents,

The February break is coming up on February 15-19 and as always breaks are a great time to also plan some quality family time that isn't possible when school is in session. During this break, I ask that you talk to your children about their goals and dreams for the future as well as their goals for this school year. Research has shown that students who have goals are much more likely to succeed than students who do not talk about their goals.

Please also have your child read anything interesting to them, every day. News, children's magazines, novels, non-fiction - anything of their choice!

Joint ELAC, SSC, and PTA Meeting, February 9th, 6:00 pm:
This meeting is for all parents. Ms. Lambert will give you information regarding the Superintendent's Strategic Plan and all parents will give their opinion and ideas about the needs, goals, and direction of the district's plan (Local Control Accountability Plan - LCAP) for the next 5 years. This is a very important meeting! Childcare and refreshments will be provided.

Amigos Program Kick-Off

Open to all 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students:

The Amigos Program matches 3rd, 4th and 5th graders with a volunteer, who provides free science tutoring, in your home for 6 weeks. More information and registration forms are available in the office. Participating students will also be invited to attend an optional program (see below) on Saturdays at Mariano Castro School.

For Grade 2-5:
A second program, open to any child in grades 2-5, will provide academic support in science, for six Saturdays at Mariano Castro from 10:00AM to 12:30PM on February 6, 13, 20, 27; March 5 and 12. No registration for this second program is necessary; just show up!

There is no cost to you for the program.

Be in School/Be on Time

Regular school attendance is required by the state law, and is included in the District’s Local Control Accountability plan (LCAP). State law requires MVWSD to send a letter to parents after three unexcused absences and/ or tardies over 30 minutes. Letters also inform parents of next steps and any resources or procedures in place to help their family get their child to school regularly. The state, county, and district are monitoring attendance, both excused and unexcused absences because the goal is for students to be in school as often as possible. Our schools’ goals are a 97% attendance rate. For more information, see

MVEF Gala Tickets On Sale Now

MVEF Gala Tickets On Sale Now

Tickets are on sale now for the Mountain View Educational Foundation’s Spring Gala & Auction: A Celebration of Teaching, on March 19, 2016, 6:30-11:00 pm at the Mountain View Senior Center, 266 Escuela Avenue.

Tickets are $40 until March 12, and $50 March 13 to March 18, and $60 at the door: order now and save! Visit

A champagne reception before the gala (5:30-6:30 pm) will feature comedian Dhaya Lakshminarayanan. Tickets for the reception and gala are $60 and only available before March 18.

Many local businesses, restaurants, and individuals are donating merchandise and services for the auction. Donations of wine and unique experiences are especially welcome! Auction donations must be received by March 7 for inclusion in the catalog: contact auction co-chairs Andrea Maes and Galen Coleman at to discuss donations.

MVEF is actively seeking volunteers to help make the gala a great success. Volunteers are needed to help decorate, sell raffle tickets, transport donated items, work the night of the gala, and do clean up. Please email Alison Barnsley at or call 650-799-4927 to learn more.

Last Chance to Check Lost and Found

Did your student lose their hat or jacket in school? Please come and check the lost and found before Friday, February 12th at the end of the school day.

What happens after Friday, February 12th?

Any unclaimed items will be donated.

I need to look for my student's sweater! Where’s the Lost & Found?

Our Lost & Found is in the front office, and it consists of a rack and a green bin.

My student's hat isn't there! Is there somewhere else I could look for it?

If it’s been turned into the office, it goes into the Lost & Found. We don’t have a second Lost & Found location.

How do I help my student keep track of their stuff?

We suggest putting the student’s name or initials on the inside of clothing, backpacks, or books. Avoid having the student bring anything expensive or unnecessary items to school.

Thank You to those who have been turning in Box Tops & Labels for Education!

Have you been saving Box Tops for Education? Have you looked for Labels for Education? Both programs can benefit your child’s school. Spot and clip the Box Top coupons. Spot and clip the whole barcode and logo for Labels for Education. It is worth it!!

Remember to ask your family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers to save them for your child’s school. Just keep a zip bag in the side of a kitchen drawer. Add them to the bag as products get used. Turn them in to Castro School! It helps!

A chance to ask questions and share ideas, resources, and support parents of students with IEPs, 504s, learning differences, mental health challenges, etc. All are welcome, participants must respect confidentiality.

This parent education event is sponsored by the SELPA 1 CAC ( an all-
volunteer group of parents of children with special needs. All of our events are free and open to anyone who feels they might benefit. No registration is necessary.
