In Case You Missed It:
Monday we will complete make up testing. Please see Roush's email sent on Friday with Monday's groups. Send students at 8:00 am with calculators and 8th graders with a laptop and calculators. We will run a second group of make ups of 8th grade science and those that were not at school on Friday for the make up reading after math groups finish. *Don't forget to notify subs in the building and assist them to ensure students are sent where they need to go at the correct time.
I know it's a lot of work when we have visitors, but I do feel it is productive and necessary. It pushes us to do things (like putting flags up that have been sitting in my office since the beginning of school ;) that we keep putting off. (Just like when we have visitors in our homes.) It also pushes us to look at everything through a different lens, one that is to help others understand the how and why behind what we do. It makes us all take a breath and a look to make sure everyone in our school is still with us pushing forward. As an AVID National Demonstration School we are a center for teaching and learning. It also makes us slow down and celebrate our accomplishments. We are AVID, and everything we do is to help our kids Advance via Individual Determination. The longer we have had AVID as our way we do business, the harder it is to pull things apart and explain how to others, because it is just what we do. I had principals asking lots of questions about movement, transitions, lesson planning, and behavior. Again, I explained all the systems and procedures we have in place and all the training and practicing we do as a school. One teacher said asked what do we do when a teacher can't do these things in his/her class. I told her that everyone can. We have to have the high expectations for all and everyone will rise to those expectations. We also pull together and help whenever and wherever to ensure all are successful. I say all this because we are a special place and do some extraordinary things. I am so proud of each and everyone of you for the hard work and dedication to do all that you can to ensure all our children are prepared for whatever future they choose.
I want to give a shout out of appreciation to Paula Layton, our AVID District Director, and Jill Williams, LCS Administrative Assistant, for making sure everything was "just right" and helping wherever needed to prepare for our visitors. I want to also thank our Superintendent, Dr. Andy Bryan, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, Dr. Chris Dossenbach, and LCS Board Members, Chairman: Patrick Kelly, Christine Hilliard, and Pat McCracken for coming out and showing their support for us during our Showcase. We are so fortunate to have so many people standing with us to be champions for our Stallions!
We will have a group of aspiring administrators visiting SanLee on November 7 for an hour. Mrs. Gilas, our administrative intern, will be surveying you about AVID strategies you feel comfortable doing and will be following up with a schedule of classroom visits. This will be more structured visits with the entire group going into certain classrooms for approximately 5 minutes to see specific AVID strategies being utilized.
I'm excited to announce that Tisha Mahon will be joining our Health/PE team in January. Tisha was our head softball coach this fall and is assisting with girls basketball. She came in twice last week to visit and observe and will be around doing her lateral entry hours before she officially starts with the second semester.
We are still looking for a team member to join our custodians. If you know of anyone hard working wanting to join the best of the best, please let me know. PLEASE help our custodians by having students pick up behind themselves in the classrooms and outside, teachers walking into the restrooms before and after you leave to ensure paper towels are in the trash cans, have students pick up all trash on and under tables in the lunchrooms, and ensuring you select responsible students to clean tables at lunch. Keeping a clean school for us all to enjoy takes us ALL.
Please keep Miyoshi Foushee, 6th grade science teacher, and family in your thoughts and prayers. Several issues have arisen at the same time recently which is taking all of Miyoshi's focus right now. She is taking some time off to handle all that is going on personally right now.
