Central Elementary Staff News----November 28-December 2
Kindness
Dear Staff,
The value for the month of December is Kindness. For those of you who are new, each year Mrs. White, through the Central Character Company, creates a chain of kindness which travels down the hallway leading to the cafeteria. It is wonderful to see that each slip of paper represents a child's thoughtfulness. Our students really enjoy this activity and you can feel the positive climate.
As a staff we are going to focus on Random Acts of Kindness as well. At the beginning of the year we tried to get this going, but there was too much happening with moving and settling in the school year. Not trying to make excuses, but it is something that unfortunately fell to the wayside.
However, we still have the opportunity to reach out to one another with Random Acts of Kindness. I encourage you to participate. We will follow the idea already set up in the teachers' lunch room. (See the pictures below.) What an amazing month this would be if we all participated in ways to help one another. It's the little things, which can make a big difference. For example, refilling the copier when you are finished, bringing a colleague their favorite morning beverage, complementing all staff members, etc. Being optimistic and encouraging doesn't have to cost anything and is contagious. Who knows, with all the positivity, our student misbehaviors during this hectic time may even go down and our sense of community will go up!
Here's to spreading kindness and having a great week!

A-F Explanation
As you take a look at our report card below, you can see that our growth points helped us significantly. Take a look at the growth of our bottom 25 percent and our top 75 percent. We are over 100 points in these categories. Our overall grade is determined by 50 percent growth and 50 percent performance. You add those together and our overall points is 98, which is an A (embargoed).
Bottom line: Every child matters! Don't underestimate the power of a year of growth for our students. We can earn a great deal of points for DNP students, who demonstrate a year of growth and even more points for those who demonstrate over a year of growth.

Elf Day!
One of Mike Underwood's favorite traditions, which he implemented I believe here, Clarks Creek and Brentwood was having the staff dress up as elves! This year, we are going to have Elf Day on Wednesday, Dec. 21st. While some people go "all out" with their costumes, it's totally up to you how you'd like to participate. See Curt for costumes. He has some you can borrow. It will be really fun and the kids absolutely love to see all of the staff as elves!
