Meet the Artisan Furniture Maker Steven Sabella
Stop by the Artists' Cooperative Gallery this Friday evening from 5-8pm to help us celebrate the opening of this month's show: What Inspiration Looks Like
The art gallery is located at 7 Canal Street in beautiful downtown Westerly, Rhode Island.
What inspires this artisan?
New England’s nautical traditions and seaside homes inspire many pieces created by Steve Sabella that will be on view. From The Swim Platform Bed to the Boat Deck Table, Steve infuses curves, lines, and carvings that capture the nautical elements that make this region so unique. Steve began his artistic training at a young age building homes with his stepfather. Over the next 20 years, he apprenticed with a furniture maker on Nantucket Island and eventually became the furniture shop foreman designing and creating pieces that incorporated reclaimed lumber and historical artifacts. In addition to building furniture for others to enjoy, Steve has also designed and built most of the furniture in his 18th century home. With an artist’s passion, Steve painstakingly attends to every detail from turning to hand cut dovetails, rendering unique, heirloom quality works of art.
