The Manning Weekly Newsletter
January 25, 2019
Dear Families,
It was nice to have our 6th graders back! They had a great time at Outdoor Lab last week, but we missed the energy that group of students brings to Manning.
With our school operating back at full swing, the second semester can be a very exciting time. Not only is there a lot going on at Manning as we make a solid push through the end of the semester, but it's this time of year we conscientiously begin planning the logistics and master schedule for next school year. While we wish our 8th graders the best of luck as they apply to their top choice high schools, we also hope we retain all of our 6th and 7th graders at Manning for the 2019-2020 school year. In order for current 6th and 7th grade families to secure their spot at Manning, you have until February 8th to log in to Enroll Jeffco and indicate your intention to return to our school in August. More information about the enrollment process can be found in this newsletter, and if you still have questions, we would be happy to answer them.
Have a great weekend.
David / Mr. Luongo

A Message from Chess Master Jesse
I have changed the date of my final tournament from 4/27/2019 to 5/4/2019 because of the all girls scholastic championship.
State Scholastic Championship and ALL GIRLS Championship.
The State Scholastic Chess Championship is coming February 23rd and 24th. I HIGHLY recommend playing in this tournament for anybody who has enjoyed playing in the regular monthly tournaments. This is an amazing once a year opportunity to play some amazing chess and for a select few to become state champions for their grade group.
You can sign up and find all information HERE
Also, for the first time ever - Colorado will have an ALL GIRLS State Scholastic Chess Championship is going to happen April 27th. This is a long time dream in the making and we're hoping to get enough attendance to justify making it a regular event. This purpose of this event is to empower girls in chess. It's not always easy being a girl in the male dominated sport of chess. Keep a lookout for more details to come!

Enroll Jeffco Is Coming!
Jeffco Public Schools is rolling out a new student enrollment system called EnrollJeffco for the 2019-20 school year. This new enrollment system has two components. Students With IEPs
IEP requires Mild / Moderate Supports:
Family may follow standard processes: Current student → Enrolling at Expected School Current student → Applying to Choice School New to Jeffco → Enrolling at N’hood School New to Jeffco → Applying to Choice School
IEP requires more intensive supports (e.g. Center Program):
Student will be directly placed at an appropriate school or program by a member of the Special Education department.
Board Policy JFBA Summary
1) Only one enrollment offer per student may be in “accepted” status at any given time
2) Enrollment offers expire after 5 days (expiration may be waived by school)
3) “Siblings” defined → Siblings by birth, step-siblings, adopted, and foster siblings.
