Rattler News
Newsletter for the Week of August 2nd
First Day of School August 2nd
Welcome from Mrs. Chavira, Campus Principal
Rattler Community,
Welcome to all our new and returning Rattlers. We are excited to have you back on campus for the 21-22 School year. While the 2020-2021 school year was one for the books, I am beyond proud to have been a part of our school community during this difficult time. Our teachers, students, staff and parents have done outstanding during these last 18 months of instruction.
As we enter the 2021–2022 school year, we will be able to grow together as a learning community. Our campus has been working diligently to plan the upcoming year. We will continue to plan for learning opportunities that will engage our Rattlers in critical thinking, problem solving, community awareness, social emotional awareness and collaboration. Another way that we will be able to grow together socially, emotionally, and behaviorally is through the introduction of our new Rattler theme 'We will ASCEND TOGETHER!’ We selected the word ASCEND as our word for the year based on the book by Gloria Gains, 'Be what the world wants you to be.' In this book Author Gains write, ' We have done our very best and now it is time to fly. See how beautiful our differences can be when we share the same sky.'
At Dr. Sue A. Shook Elementary, we understand that each child is unique. Our teachers provide an engaging learning environment where all students will thrive, no matter where they are on the learning continuum. Our faculty and staff are here to support you.
I cannot wait to welcome all our Rattlers back to school! We are thankful to be a part of every Rattlers path to success! If I can be of assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to meeting all of you and welcoming you into our Shook Family.
Please take a moment to read the information below that has direct links to supplies, uniform policies, back to school plan etc. This information can also be found on our campus website.
Respectfully,
Cristina Sanchez-Chavira

IMPORTANT MESSAGE for the First Day of School
Rattler Community,
I want to first thank you for choosing Socorro ISD and Dr. Sue A. Shook Elementary. Dr. Sue A. Shook has an enrollment of over 1300 students. With this said, our hallways will be crowded with all the parents and guardians on campus. I ask that you plan and prepare as we are expecting many adults that will be walking our hallways from 7:15 to 8:00am. We will clear our hallways at 7:45 and instruction will start promptly at 8:00am. Please keep in mind that large crowds are intimating for many children and uncomfortable for all. We ask that you exit the building once you have dropped off your child in class. Staff is prepared to help with criers and support our teachers once we have cleared out the building. If you have an older child that is a returning student, the car drop-off will also be available for any students that will be walking in on their own. Bus routes are also available on the first day if you would like your returning student to ride the bus.
How can I find out who my child's teacher is:
- Our rosters are posted outside of our main office if you would like to check before the first day of school.
- You can check on Tyler 360 Parent Portal
- We will have individuals around the campus with rosters that can help and guide you.
Thank you for your patience.
