FYI: Media on Campus
Guidelines for Media on School Campus
1. All staff, including coaches, are to notify his or her school administrator and the administrator is to notify district’s Marketing and Communications Department prior to media being on campus. It is important to include the purpose for the media coming to campus.
The only exception to this guideline is for media coverage of athletic games since it is not always possible to know if a reporter/photographer will be present.
2. When media is on campus an administrator or athletic director must accompany the photographer/reporter to ensure media personnel are monitored and students are protected from unwarranted/inappropriate press coverage.
3. Should a photographer/reporter arrive on campus without prior approval or unsolicited, he/she must get approval from the school administrator and then the administrator must notify the district’s Marketing and Communications Department prior to speaking with or photographing students. If approved, an administrator must accompany the photographer/reporter.
4. No student or group of students should be left alone with a reporter/photographer.
5. Be certain that the student/parent has not turned in a request not to be photographed. The Communications Department would have notified the school of the request.
Media representatives are expected to observe all the rules and regulations for visitors, including proper sign-in in the school office.
Please direct issues, questions, or concerns to the
