Warren Elementary Monthly Update
April 2021
From the Principal
Dear Warren Community,
It has been so good to have your students back at school 5 days a week this week!
You should have just received an email from Dr. Ream which outlines that starting on Monday, April 19th your child will have the option to remove her/his mask while outside, with no social distancing requirement. This change is a result of our School Board revising Policy 1905 (attached). When your student comes to school on Monday, April 19th, s/he will need to have a mask on when s/he enters the school. When outside students can be unmasked with their mask on their persons (e.g., in their pocket, under their chin, etc.).
One request I have of each of you, as parents, is to talk to your child(ren) about respecting each student/family's decision around wearing a mask outside. We do not want children to feel uncomfortable about choosing to wear a mask at recess, nor do we want them to feel uncomfortable for choosing not to wear a mask while outside. Every child and family will need to make their own decision around what they feel is best for their child and family. When talking to students we will compare mask wearing outside to wearing a sweatshirt outside; it is okay to make a different choice than your friend.
I have also been asked about why we have no school next Friday, April 23rd. This day was set in the calendar in the event we missed a day of school due to inclement weather. If we had to cancel school earlier in the year, we would attend school on the April 23rd. Since we did not have to cancel school due to inclement weather this day will remain as a day with no school. I hope this makes sense. Please let me know if you have any questions around this day.
I have transitioned back to in-person. Starting this Monday, Mr. Burton will be supporting various schools in an admin role. He will still be a constant at Warren and will be a big part of our end of year celebrations and wrap up. The support and leadership Mr. Burton has displayed this year has been profound. I am immensely thankful for all he has done for our Warren community.
Dear Warren Community,
I want to express the joy I have felt working alongside you this year. Plain and simple this year has been hard. Through the many relationships and your continued support, we have made it to a point that is fast approaching the normalcy we left last March. Since Mrs. Wilkins has transitioned back into the building, I will be moving about and assisting at other buildings across the district. I will be at Warren on occasion as we approach summer and will also be a part of end of the year activities and goodbyes.
Sincerely,
Mr. Burton
Lastly, if you know of families who live in the Warren attendance area who plan to have their child(ren) attend Warren next fall who have not contacted us, please encourage them to do so. Our district is already busy planning for next year! Likewise, if you are planning to move, please let us know that as well. You can reach our Warren School secretary, Mrs. Hornby at 324-1600 or whornby@helenaschools.org
Thank you for sharing your children with us,
Mrs. Wilkins

Parents,
It is now official that the Elementary schools will be going back to 5 day in person school starting next week. This change will not allow us to serve the Distance learning meals like we have since school started. In the attached newsletter we have tried to explain how things will work for the rest of the year. If you have any questions, please let us know. I want to make sure to point out that we are still able to give 7 days' worth of meal to all children 1-18 years old. This means that even if your student is in school 5 days a week you can still pick up the 2-day weekend meal sack, if you are picking up for siblings, homeschoolers or 100% distance learners.
Thanks
