A Message from Principal Johnson
Greetings SMS Families,
Wow, can you believe we only have about two more months left in this school year. The month of March is always a busy time with teachers preparing students for GA Milestones and other fun activities. Make sure to check our schoolwide calendar for a list of events. I want to prepare parents for GMAS testing dates and send a reminder about check-in/outs, attendance, and tardiness. In order to avoid an abundance of make-ups, we are asking that all parents preview the testing calendar in advance to ensure your child is present on the day of required contents.
Also, as we start to wind down the school year, it's important to monitor student grades on the parent portal. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child's teacher. Students should not wait until the last week of school to make-up missing assignments. There will be a cut-off for awards in April and May deadline for final report cards.
Let's continue to speak with students about making great choices and staying the course for the remainder of the year. We are looking forward to closing out the year strong and preparing students for after spring break testing. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact the school.
Special thanks to all the volunteers that came out to support our Food Drive!

The Theme for March is Music Appreciation
March is a month where we march into Music Appreciation. Music is a popular art form celebrated throughout the world. Music is universally sound and will be celebrated at Sweetwater Middle. The Counseling staff would like to recognize all musical art forms as we are partnering with musicians this month for Music Appreciation. Our goal is to teach students to appreciate all music art forms and learn to grasp the impact that music can have on their academic, social, and emotional wellbeing. Join us this month as we appreciate music as an art form.

Surveys, Surveys, Surveys
The Educational Effectiveness Survey is school specific. Please complete the survey so that we can see what we have done well and what we need to do to improve. https://ceesurveys.questionpro.com/gcps-fam-23?CID=312656&DVB=345355.
For Parents of Special Needs students,
Each state is required to conduct a parent survey to measure parent/family perceptions of the success of parent engagement between home and local schools for families receiving special education services.
For a quick reference, please click here to complete the survey.
Parenting Tip for March
Team Up With Teachers to Help Your Teen
Teachers and families have a common goal. They both want students to do well. This is important to remember when you speak to your teen’s teachers, particularly if you have a problem to discuss.
When you communicate with a teacher, consider that person your partner in your teen’s education. Let the teacher know you feel this way. Express your appreciation for what the teacher does to help your teen learn. Then share your concerns and work together on a plan to address them. Ask what you can do to help your teen succeed in school.

Georgia Milestones Night
Students will begin taking GA Milestones the week of April 24th. On March 21st, we will have a GA Milestones Night to give you information about the test, show you where your child can practice online, and give you handouts your child can use to practice during Spring Break (April 1st-9th). The meeting will be held at 6:15 in the Cafeteria. Interpreters will be available.
International Night
Also, we are in need of groups to do authentic dances. Groups will have only 3 minutes to perform. Please let me know if you have a group that would like to perform.
Parents, we need your help and participation to make this event one to remember.
