A Message from Mr. Hartman
Greetings BES Families! Believe it or not, our second trimester officially comes to an end on Thursday, March 2. Yes, the school year is really going fast and it will continue to do so. Staff and students have been working hard, and I’m proud of their extra efforts during these winter months.
During the month of February we celebrated our 100th day of school, a notable milestone we recognize every year. Additionally, a couple of weeks ago we wrapped up our student council (SPARKS) food drive, and were able to collect a great deal of food (over 1,000 items!!) which will be donated to our local food pantry. Staff and students also participated in dress-up days throughout the week. Thank you to everyone who was able to make a food donation to help our local families in need.
On Friday, February 17th PIE hosted a Sweetheart Family Dance in the BES gym. Volunteers served spaghetti and other concessions items that evening in our cafeteria, while kids and parents danced in our gym. This February Family Night event was fully equipped with a DJ, and many families used the photo booth to capture some fun memories!
Finally, as you begin making your plans for summer please consider enrolling your child in Summer School. Summer school will begin the week after school is finished, with the first day slotted for Tuesday, June 6th. The summer school session will conclude on Thursday, July 13th, and as always we will have a variety of course offerings for students. A Summer School informational packet will be sent home with students at the beginning of April with more information. We hope your child can make it this summer!

PIE Sweetheart Dance
A Sweetheart Family Dance was hosted by BES PIE on February 17, 2023. Over 375 students and family members attended the event. Students and their families had so much fun dancing to the beat of the music provided by Rock n’ Roll to Go Plus!, taking pictures at the Photo Booth and enjoying a meal including spaghetti, cotton candy, DQ Dilly Bars and more! The BES PIE would like to thank all those who attended. A very special thank you goes out to all of the volunteers, parents and school staff members who helped make this event a success! It would not have been possible with you! Your ongoing support is appreciated!

Third grade has been exploring many new topics. They have explored how light travels and how light refracts into all the colors of the spectrum. They have also explored sound and how it travels. In addition to exploring light and sound, they participated in a virtual Viking Quest to explore how Vikings gathered resources, built longships, and designed their settlements.

In March, classroom Guidance lessons will continue to be built around the Wisconsin Social Emotional Learning Competencies, specifically centered on the areas of Emotional Development (understanding and manage one’s emotions), Self-Concept (develop positive self-identity and recognize self as a learner) and Social Competence (establish and maintain positive relationships). This go around, we will focus our attention on exhibiting positive self-concept, confidence in abilities identifying and describing activities done well/asking for help for those that need it, using a growth mindset to recognize and build on strengths, demonstrating awareness of self as a unique individual and more! 😊
During our recent Food Drive, several pounds of food were collected and donated to our local Bloomer Food Pantry! Additionally, several bulk snack items were donated for our BES Snack Shack! The words, “thank you,” often don’t seem adequate enough to express the gratitude felt by all the families, students, organizations and people you have helped us help! 😊 Together, we ARE making a difference!
The School Counseling department offers many terrific resources for parents covering a wide range of topics. Some of these resources are available for parents to keep and others are available for checkout. Featured resources this month include: The Self-Confident Child by Jean Yoder, MD, Hearing Is Believing: How Words Can Make Or Break Our Kids by Elisa Medhus, MD, Parents DO Make A Difference: How To Raise Kids With Solid Character, Strong Minds & Caring Hearts by Michele Borba, EdD and The Power Of Positive Talk: Words To Help Every Child Succeed by Douglas Bloch, MA. Please stop in and take a look!
Daylight Savings Time this month reminds us to “Spring Ahead.” Let’s change our outlook on “losing” an hour and look “forward” to what the new season will bring. Budding trees, seeing the first robin, melting snow, WARMER temperatures! What are you looking ahead to with your families? Take advantage of the warmer weather and get outside! Collect pussywillows, go for a hike on the trails of our local Ice Age Center, map out where you’ll plant a garden! Whatever you are looking ahead to, enjoy the company of each other and the simplest moments of joy you’ll share. 😊 Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Happy Spring! “It’s a NEW season. A perfect opportunity to do something NEW, something BOLD, something BEAUTIFUL!” 😊
