Worst storm in Long Island, NY, 1938
The worst hurricane to hit the eastern seaboard in 1938 was the Long Island Express. The storm roared up the east coast at 70 mph, wind up to 120 mph, and a 10 foot storm surge that slammed into Long Island. Because the storm was moving north so quickly, residents had little warning.

This was really bad for New York. Especially since they had no time to prepare. If they would have had time they could of gotten out alive. Having no time helps.
