The Fight Against IT
Summary
A Wrinkle in Time is the story of Meg Murry, a high-school-aged girl who is transported on an adventure through time and space with her younger brother Charles Wallace and her friend Calvin O' Keefe to rescue her father, a gifted scientist, from the evil forces that hold him prisoner on another planet.
The Man With The Red Eyes - Symbolism
Red represents evil, having red eyes meant that The Man With The Red Eyes is evil or is controlled by something evil. "Now the red eyes and the light above seemed to bore into Charles, and again the pupils of the little boy's eyes contracted. When the final point of black was lost in blue he turned away from the red eyes, looked at Meg, and smiled sweetly, but the smile was not Charles Wallace's smile". This quote shows how once Charles Wallace is controlled by The Man With The Red Eyes and IT he too becomes evil.
The dark thing - Symbolism
Being cold and dark makes the dark thing morbid and scary. Calvin turned, rejecting the dark Thing that blotted out the light of the stars. "Make it go away, Mrs. Whatsit," he whispered. "Make it go away. It's evil." This quote represents how The dark thing is evil and will try to take over Meg, Calvin and Charles.
Camazotz - Setting
Camazotz is the more controlled then practically anything every one there are like robots every action they make controlled by one thing, one IT. "Why do you think we have wars on Earth? Why do you think people get confused and unhappy? Because they all live their own, separate, individual lives. I've been trying to explain to you in the simplest possible way that on Camazotz individuals have been done away with. Camazotz is ONE mind. It's IT. And that's why everybody's so happy and efficient." This quote shows how Camazotz is controlled and surreal.
