Ridgeway Clubs
It is time to sign up for Ridgeway Clubs. Ridgeway students have a gold club menu with detailed information about each club in their Friday Folder today. We want to give families time to review the information and talk to their children. Therefore, the club link will open at 8:00 am on Saturday, Sept. 17. The deadline is September 25, and the link will no longer be active after that. Get your choices in as soon as possible – many clubs fill quickly!
Important things to know:
- Please read the club description to make sure your student is eligible for the club(s) for which they sign up.
- Please note the dates each club meets as they vary from club to club.
- Each student will have a club confirmation form with their assigned clubs in their Friday Folder on September 30.
- The more choices you provide, the more likely your child will be assigned to a club.
- Each student will be assigned one club if one is available. Clubs are filled on a first come, first placed basis.
- If there are extra spaces available once each student has been assigned their first club, we will start with our graduating 5th graders who will be assigned to a second club if one of their choices is available. We will then move through 4th graders, 3rd, etc.
- We fill club spots based on the time stamp of your submission so sign up as soon as you can when the link opens. If you make changes to your form, the updated date/time stamp is what will show on our records.
- Based on the popularity of your club choices, your student may be assigned to more than two clubs if there is space available. It is also possible that your child may not be assigned any clubs if all of their choices are full by the time their form is submitted.

Principal’s Pen
Ridgeway is a school known for parent and family support! We need your help to provide opportunities for all students, and we are excited to welcome visitors and volunteers back into the building this year. Visitors and Volunteers have different roles according to Columbia Public Schools procedures. We have many opportunities for you to do either or both! Visitors are always supervised by the teacher or other school staff. Volunteers have submitted and passed a background check at the district level. Please fill out the form below if you can help out in the classroom or school. We will add you to a list and send more details as opportunities come up!
Ridgeway Visitor/Volunteer Form: https://forms.gle/MV5mP6pobrDY3oj49
Below is more information about Visitors and Volunteers from the CPS Community Relations Department:
Definitions and Visiting and Volunteering at CPS program information can be found online, www.cpsk12.org/volunteer
Volunteers receive clearance by HR prior to receiving a volunteer assignment. Volunteers after cleared are then approved to be on our school campuses volunteering alone with students. Approved Volunteer assignments are provided by building principals for volunteers at prearranged times. Volunteers sign in and out from the school’s main office. Volunteers are under the direction of the principal or designee. Should you wish to be registered with the district as a “Volunteer”, please complete the process for Non-Employee Background Clearance. This information can be found here: https://www.cpsk12.org/Page/20381
Specifically, you should fill out this Enrollment Form for Non-Employee: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeQZ90_NeupWLtIESyfmC2zyAdhCzYqAHlvf1wVqa7aNqgEwQ/viewform
The Human Resources office will contact the Community Relations office that a volunteer has been cleared for volunteering at the schools and ready for “Volunteer” Placement. It is important to note, that the cost of the background check is currently the responsibility of the “Volunteer” and is estimated to be $45.
Tiger Tuesday
Ridgeway families,
Our Columbia Public Schools Partner in Education, Mizzou Athletics, has generously donated dozens of books to us here at Ridgeway. With this donation, we are excited to kick off a weekly Tiger Tuesday drawing beginning Tuesday, September 20! Each week, two nominees will be randomly selected to receive two donated books, a drawstring bag, a hand-written note from a Mizzou student-athlete, and a Tiger Tuesday certificate. Students that demonstrate exceptionally kind, safe, respectful, and responsible behavior throughout the day will be nominated by our Specials (Art, Music, PE, and Media) teachers. Nominated students that are not chosen will have the opportunity to be nominated for future drawings. At Ridgeway, we prioritize displaying kind and respectful behavior towards all and we are excited to use this drawing as an opportunity to recognize, encourage and reward these positive behaviors!
Be on the lookout for our weekly winners each Friday in the RAP!
Thank you,
Mitchell Pittman
Assistant Administrator
Second Step lesson focus this week
Today’s lesson was about the skills of following directions, using self-talk, and being assertive.
Key parts of the lessons are:
- Repeating directions helps you remember them.
- Self-task helps you focus, stay on task, and handle distractions.
- Unit C students learned about being assertive. This means you ask for what you want or need in a calm, firm, respectful voice.
Families can support their children at home by discussing how each family member handles distractions and how they focus and use self-talk to listen. Listening helps us follow directions and receive information.
Watch for the weekly Second Step lesson focus in the RAP every Friday!
Unit Notes
Unit A
Unit A is excited about our first field trip of the school year. We will be going to Lloyd’s Family Farm on Thursday, October 6 from 9:00-1:00. Please complete the Ridgeway Visitor/Volunteer form to let your child’s teacher know if you are willing and able to join us. If volunteering, you must pay your own admission of $6 and drive yourself. We ask that no younger siblings attend so that volunteers can focus on a small group of students.
Unit B
Unit C
Unit C will be attending the Missouri River Days Field Trip on Friday morning, September 23. Please read the information letter and permission form coming home in today’s Friday Folder. Please sign and return the permission form by Tuesday, September 20.
