District Digest
Glen Ellyn School District 41
Dear District 41 Community,
The first day of school is August 28 and I am incredibly excited to start my first school year as Superintendent in District 41! I hope all of our families had a fun and safe summer break! Please review this District Digest for information to help you prepare for what is coming up next week.
To start off we will be having an Open House and Ribbon Cutting for the new addition at Hadley Junior High School this coming Monday, August 26 at 5:30 p.m. The event is open to the public. The Chamber of Commerce will be there to officially cut the ribbon! I hope all families, staff and community members are able to stop by and tour some of the new spaces made possible by community support! Although I was not here a few years back when the referendum was passed, I am impressed by the work that has been done and the safe and student-centered learning environments we enjoy across our district. Refreshments will be provided by the PTA Council. Thank you to all!
If you have any questions about the start of school, please contact your school office. All school offices are now open and available to support you!
I can’t wait to meet all of our families! I wish everyone a great start to the school year.
See you soon!
Dr. Melissa Kaczkowski

Glen Ellyn Children's Resource Center (GECRC) Tutors Needed
GECRC is busy gearing up for the new school year and has many volunteer tutor spots to fill! Tutoring sessions will begin on September 23rd and are held Monday - Thursday from 4:30 to 5:30 at Churchill and Lincoln Elementary Schools, and 3:30 - 4:40 at Hadley Junior High. Volunteers can choose the day that works best for them. The program is flexible and even those who can't commit to a regular schedule can have a big impact in a child's life right here in District 41. Also needed are volunteers who are willing to share their interests and passions to lead workshops on Friday afternoons in areas such as chess, art, science and sports!
Email volunteer@gecrc.com, or visit www.gecrc.com/volunteer to learn more and fill out an application. Thank you in advance for your support!
Measles Information from the DuPage County Health Department
DuPage County Health Department has informed District 41 of an increase in measles cases across the US (approximately 8 confirmed cases in Illinois this year; and approximately 181 cases in the US this year). According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, measles is a very contagious disease caused by a virus. It spreads through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Measles starts with fever. Soon after, it causes a cough, runny nose, and red eyes. Then a rash of tiny, red spots breaks out. It starts at the head and spreads to the rest of the body. Serious complications can develop from the measles especially in young children and older adults. Please ensure that your children have been vaccinated to protect your family and our entire school community. Click here for information from the health department. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s pediatrician or the nurse at your child’s school.
