A Note from the Principal
Our faculty/staff as well as our Safety Committee are constantly discussing the safety of our students. Please be sure to read the letter enclosed in today's communication folder regarding upcoming ALICE training. Our Safety Committee met a couple of weeks ago to discuss various topics related to student and campus safety. As a result of that meeting, I am happy to share that, when possible, a Highland Heights police officer will be present at our school Masses. You may have noticed one at last week's Mass. I am very grateful to Sergeant Brian McCallister who is serving on our Safety Committee who helped to make this happen, and to Police Chief James Cook and the Highland Heights Police Department. We are blessed to have such a positive relationship with them.
The state of Ohio and Attorney General Dave Yost also remain committed to student safety. I am pleased to tell you that we have qualified for a safety grant for $2,500 from the state of Ohio once again this year. Last year we used the grant money to fund a portion of the installation of a new PA/intercom system in our school. This was a definite need as our previous system was old and failing quickly. Our Safety Committee discussed some different options for this year's grant, but no decision has been made yet.
Finally, I hope you have had the chance to see the culminating activity of our Only One You project--our river teeming with fish--just outside the entrance to the school. Many of the students have already spotted their fish! It serves as a great reminder to our students that, "There is only one you in this great big world. Make it a better place!" Thank you again to the Blessed Sacrament Ladies Guild for providing the funding for this project.
Sincerely,
Diane Raguz
Principal
Girls on the Run this Sunday!
Socktober was a hit! Thank you!
During the week of October 21, the kindergartners and fifth graders sponsored SOCKTOBER, a service project to collect warm socks for the homeless. The students of SPB collected an AMAZING 422 pairs of socks to be distributed to those in need. The K and 5 buddies met this past Thursday to estimate and count the socks, and then they made little "love" notes to include with each pair. We hope that this will help to warm the feet and hearts of those less fortunate. Thank you to our kindergartners, fifth graders, and their teachers for leading this service project!

GRADES 5-6 PARENTS/ GUARDIANS-we need you!
The links for November for Grade 6, and December for Grade 5 can be found below. With the holiday season just ahead, we know that you will want to get the dates that work for your busy schedule!
We are asking that each family (mom, dad, grandma, etc.) choose at least two days to volunteer each time slot being 11:00-1:00. We are so grateful for the help!
This is a great way for you to interact with your child and his/her classmates during the school day! Lunch/Recess Volunteers should arrive to school at 11:00 and check in at the office. Duties will include supervising students at recess, escorting students to the cafeteria from recess, and supervising in the cafeteria. Volunteers will be with one teacher and two "core" volunteers each day to help direct. Remember that after your two volunteer time slots, you are done for the year, as each month is assigned to a different grade.
Thank you again for your time and service to the students and teachers of SPB! Simply click on the grade level link to pick a time convenient for you: Grade 6, Grade 5.
