Monday Memo #17
Bread and Milk...
Dear T.E.A.M. :
Thanks for a solid start back to school this past week. It's always great to have time off to recharge, but there's something about getting back to our routines that feels right.
So before we dive deep into learning, I encourage you to take a moment to enjoy (?) the following 29 second video clip: http://viewpure.com/i6zaVYWLTkU?start=0&end=0 .
Bread and Milk. These are two historical staples in our diets that we can't seem to live without...especially when talk of snow comes along. And when you think about it, how long does it really take to make sure kids have what they need? Meet them at the door. Greet each of them, by name and with eye contact. Facilitate a conversation, at some point in someone's day, who didn't expect it, but who will soar through there day because you made the time to have it. Do it for a student. A parent. A colleague. Or your Principal. : )
While this clip has me somewhere between a smirk and a chortle, it also has me thinking about what our "staples" are in our middle school diets. Strong, purposeful instruction. Being really intentional about how we connect with our kids. Planning together, teaching together, and learning together to be our personal best as educators.
These are all things that are not only what's best for kids, but they're also what make us better, for each other. And, in times when the public looks to our schools to inspire hope for a brighter future for our kids,
THIS is why, bread and milk can be even more important than we may realize.
If you have yet to dive into our Advisory Menus, why not give them a look today, this week, and this month? Click the link above to take a look.
And for those who have shared a strategy, tool, or resource you've used recently with students, THANK YOU.
Let's keep sharing these, Faculty-wide. Also, as always, be sure to check out the 7 resources below, to help support us, as learners.
Happy and Healthy 2017.
Thanks for all you do, for our middle school students and our program.
Sincerely,
Dennis
