Remarriage and Stepfamilies
Most people will remarry to find a new life partner
The Start
When couples have children from previous relationships, the two families will join to become one unit.
It may not always be easy
Each family had their own way of doing things. Both families must work to blend their lives.
Younger children usually easily merge into the new family life. Children between the ages of 9 and 15 usually have a much harder time adjusting. Older teens are not as involved in the blending process because they spend more time with friends.
Additional problems will occur
Larger Family
Children may end up having 4 parentals, 8 grandparents, and multiple step, half, and full siblings!
Additional Roles
Everyone must form relationships. With their partner, with their stepkids, while also maintaining bond with biological children.
Relationship Changes
Parents naturally feel closer to their biological children. They must try to be unbias and try to bond with stepkids
Conflicts With noncustodial parents
The biological parent may be negative to the new partner. The child may have trouble adapting when his/her parents fight. Children may see the new partner as a threat to their relationship with their biological parents.
