A Word From Principal Haynes
Interim reports are due to go home on Thursday. Once they have been checked, you will receive them back in your box in a plastic folder. PLEASE keep up with this folder through the whole year and use it to turn in your interims and your report cards.
On Tuesday, we will continue our Professional Learning Community Meeting in the Media Center. AnnMarie Stramanak, our former Literacy Coach will wrap up her presentation from week one and guide us to where we are moving forward to. Each meeting will be designed to help teachers with their instructional practice, which in turn will help student achievement--taking Welleby from Good to GREAT!
Please be advised that there is a change to PLC Meetings: our meeting will go from 2:15PM to 3:15PM. In order to maximize our time and get the benefit from the PLC meeting it is necessary to devote an entire hour to PLC meetings. For our PLCs to qualify for inservice points, we must meet a minimum of 21 hours. If the time per meeting is shorter than the hour, we have to meet more times to get to the required number of hours.
In light of this change, staying past your contractual time of 2:50PM is purely optional for you. This meeting is the weekly meeting that by contract principals can call so you are expected to be in attendance through your contracted time--you will benefit from getting some of the information. Beyond that, if you elect to stay, you will receive the 21 inservice points and .5 hour of flex time. Teachers staying for the full PLC meeting will be required to attend each meeting beginning Tuesday in order to earn points and will sign in on the sign in sheet at the end of the meeting. Please see me if you have a question, comment, and/or concern regarding these changes in the PLC meeting times and guidelines.
Our first checkpoint assessments are this week. We will be using the data as a guide to show us where we need to target our instruction. We will continue to let the data guide us so that we work smarter, not harder in intentionally planning on how to help our students meet the expected outcomes.
Have an AMAZING week!!
Checkpoint Assessments are Coming!!
This week, our students will take the first checkpoint assessment for ELA and Math (4th and 5th grade will also do a writing pre-test and 5th grade will have a science pre-test coming up). While we have a lot of standards to cover and lessons often overlap standards, we should be deliberately planning our instruction in order to teach to proficiency the highlighted standards on our Instructional Focus Calendar.
The data will be available quickly for you. I will give further guidance on the use of data later. We will be using the data to guide what we do.

Assistance Needed!!!
We need a planning committee for the upcoming Literacy Night in October. This night is held in conjunction with our PTA Annual Scholastic Book Fair. I would like someone to spearhead this event and turn it into a positive parent training and community event. From having guest readers to parent trainings on ELA resources, technology resources, or other things for their child, etc.---we need ideas on ways we can bring our families out. This will take the work of a full committee so along with taking on the challenge to spearhead the event, comes rallying up others to assist you as well. If you are interested in spearheading this event, please let me know.
We also need someone to organize our Career Day--this is not until May, but we are already getting requests from businesses to come out and be a part of Career Day. Let me know if you are interested.
