Green Tree Elementary
LEARNING TODAY, LEADING TOMORROW
Principals Corner:
We are already off to a great start of a new school year. The students smiling faces, love of school and learning have been such a delight. I am very pleased with what our students and staff have accomplished. The teachers are already engaged in well thought out and skillful instruction, while students are focused and engaged in meaningful learning. We are proud of their hard work.
The level of engagement and dedication of the Green Tree Elementary Parent Teacher Organization is to be commended. They have assisted in numerous projects that have aided in the successful start of the school year. We would love to have all of our families be a part of the PTO. A PTO sign-up sheet is attached. Please consider joining the PTO.
Green Tree main focus this year will continue to be to improving student academic achievement and providing them with a caring and safe environment. With the help of the talented, dedicated staff and supportive, involved partents we will continue to move this school forward.
Our door is always open. Please let us know how we can continue to support you and your children.
It’s a great year to be a Gator!

Parent Pick Up!
Tips for Parent Pick-up
I’m Mrs. Winter, the art teacher. I will also be greeting the families who pick up students in their cars at the end of the day. I’d like to share a few things that will help to speed up the process of picking up your child.
Have a yellow card (with your child’s LAST NAME and then first name written in dark thick lines) inside your car. Grab extra cards for anyone else who may pick up your child. Most families keep the cards in the glovebox of their cars.
If you don’t have a green card, please have your driver’s license ready. We will check to ensure that the driver’s name is on the approved list of people who can pick up your child.
Place the card in a spot that is easily viewable outside the car by the staff member who will check in your car and keep it in the window until you leave the parking lot. The dark tinting near the top of the windshield and tall consoles are not the best places for the cards.
In the parking lot, keep a safe, but close distance to the car in front of you.
When you get past the flagpole, please pull up as far as you can. We try to load 6 to 7 cars at a time.
Ensure your child has a path inside the car from the passenger side AND that he or she knows how to latch his or her own safety belt.
When the weather is less than the best, please ensure the green sign is easily visible. The days that you don't want to be out in the weather are usually the days that are toughest for our afternoon duty staff. Anything you can do to help them will also help your child.
Please ask if you have any questions and we thank you for helping to ensure the safety of our students and staff.
Late Start
Late Start Supervision Registration
The WSD will once again be providing supervision for K-6 students who need to be dropped off at the regular start time on scheduled Late Start Days in the 2018-19 school year. This is separate from our Before Care Program through Chautauqua, so if you are registered for Chautauqua, please DO NOT fill out this form.
- The fee for students in grades K-6 is $10 per child for each late start day you would like to register for.
- Please fill out the Registration Form first prior to paying. If you choose to use PayPal, there is a sliding scale charge assessed to cover processing costs. You also have the option to send a check in to your child's school.
Late starts provide valuable collaboration time for our teachers across the District and yet we understand these days can be a challenge for working parents especially. The supervision option was established to assist those parents who need it. Additional information about late start supervision for students in grades K-6, as well as the link to pay via PayPal, can be found on the District website: https://tinyurl.com/WSDlateSTARTS.
In order to arrange for adequate staffing at our elementary buildings, you must register and pay before the deadline for each late start day. You may pay for more than one late start day at a time and we will send reminder emails prior to each late start day.
1st Day of School!
Green Tree Library
Notes and Quotes from the Green Tree Library
Mrs. Muench &
Mrs. Campeau
Green Tree will soon be receiving a new book order to fill our shelves with exciting titles that you want to read! We ask that everyone remember to take care of our book collection with these helpful hints:
Treat our books with GENTLE CARE! Keep books away from food, drink, PETS, and younger siblings (unless supervised by an adult).
KEEP YOUR BOOK DRY! Each year, many books are ruined by LEAKY WATER BOTTLES IN BACKPACKS! Make sure to keep water bottles on a side net pouch, in your hand, or in a Ziploc bag. If the book has significant water damage, you will be fined to pay for the book.
After you read your book at home, RETURN IT TO YOUR BACKPACK EACH NIGHT! You only have 32 weeks to check out books during the year. Don’t miss out on checking out books each week!
Our main goal is to get books into the hands of kids for them to READ. When we ALL take care of our amazing collection at Green Tree, more students are able to access books to learn and grow. Let’s have a great year in the Green Tree Library!

The computer program and the kids here at GTE will be getting a computer experience that no other school in the district will have and it will be a great year! Very excited for the kids to learn, it’s a great day to be a Gator!

Green Tree Art Clubs
Green Tree has two art clubs available to students. Students in second to fifth grade can join an art club session, based upon their grade level and interests. Every student who applies will be accepted into one 4-week session. Each of these groups will meet on separate Tuesday mornings from 7:15 to the beginning of the school day. Mrs. Winter will send home a welcome letter a few weeks before your child's session begins and will also use the Remind app to communicate with each group.
The Curators is a new group of select fourth, fifth, and sixth graders that will meet after school twice a month. Students selected into this group will learn how to create a collection of artwork and prepare that collection for display. The group will create art collections for the school, the school-wide art show at the end of January, school district offices, and the local community. Applications are due by August 27 and students will know if they are a member of the group by August 30.
Applications for all the art clubs at Green Tree are available online on Mrs. Winter's webpage, https://sites.google.com/wsdr4students.org/gte-artroom/home
The application for the original art club sessions is an online google form, while The Curators application will need to be printed and turned in to Mrs.Winter in the Art Room.
Let Me Run
Let Me Run is a running program for 4th-6th grade boys, but it’s more about the boy than the run. Counteracting the negative pressures society places on boys, the program uses running as the vehicle to inspire, teach, and reach them. Combining exercise with fun activities and lessons, our trained coaches inspire boys to be courageous enough to be themselves, build healthy relationships, and live an active lifestyle. Registration at Green Tree Elementary is now open! 2018 season starts on September 11, 2018, meets Tuesdays and Thursdays after school for an hour and fifteen minutes, and ends with a 5k race on Saturday, November 10, 2018. Watch this video to learn more and register at http://www.letmerun.org/region/st-louis-metro/teams Questions? Email Mrs. Buchheit @ andreabuchheit@wsdr4.org.
