100% EVERY DAY
The Climb... Events at DKA this week!
Family Members of the Week!
Year 7
Hanna El Sayed – Diligence
Mohammed Yaseen – Integrity
Year 8
Aniqah Kauser for being an extremely civil student every single day to myself and others and demonstrating this further by representing the school by being an outstanding ambassador for our school in the Careers fair yesterday.
Year 9
Subhan Ahmad 9.4
An excellent first half term, consistently displaying the core values!
Mariam Karim 9.1
An excellent contribution to the inter-form basketball competition!
Year 10
Gamaledden Elazhari for a very strong start to Y10
Year 11
Mariyum Patel- always exemplary in showing civility. She not only offers excellent support to peers in lessons but has a spare pencil case that has helped many students from different year groups not get into trouble and have their equipment for the day.
Year 10 and 11 students meet Author Daljit Nagra
Students in year 10 and 11 took part in poetry writing workshops with Radio 4 Poet in Residence, Daljit Nagra, as part of the Ilkley Literature Festival. Inspired by Daljit, they used standard English, slang and street talk and their home languages to re-tell part of the story of Rama and Sita. Their responses were incredibly creative and they showed great civility, integrity and diligence throughout. Well done to all those students involved.
National Poetry Day Competition Winners! Well done to all the entries!
Year 7
Hashmath Ali Ahmed
Hi poem really impressed me with its strong rhyme and clever multi syllabillic line endings. It read like a piece of street poetry and also reflected the school values. It was a little bit off topic, but still a strong winner. Well Done.
Malaika Umar
Malaika submitted 50% of the entries for year 7! Howeve, it was this poem that realy impressed me, she was totally on the brief and the poem conveyed genuine emotion. Good stuff.
Year 8
Shayraz Ahmed
This piece of work quite stunned me with it’s complexity and maturity. This is an extremely elegant use of language to create imagery and meaning which entirely fills the brief. When I read this, I felt as if I was reading an actual poem which had been written by a convict in prison, to achieve this is the aim of any work of art; to transport the reader to another time and place.
Faatimah Khan
Sometimes one reads a piece of poetry which is simply beautiful, and captivates and delights. This is a simple, but no less accomplished piece of work. Poetry can be complex and long and elaborate, but to write something relatively short that has real impact is a definite craft. I particularly like the phrase “igniting my loosened soul.” Wow! Great poem.
Ifrah Mirza
I didn’t know whether to put this poem through or not. It was a close thing because there were some basic mistakes in there. However, the strength of Ifrah’s ideas are evident, and I can see what she was thinking. Ifrah was attempting a deeply philosophical piece of work, which has moments of real triumph. Please, please, please, keep on writing. This is brave and ambitious work, and for those reasons you are a winner.
Year 10
Aleeza Riaz
Aleeza rose to the challenge of writing a Shakespearean Sonnet, and produced very interesting piece of work. Although there are still some refinements to be made, this was a great attempt at one of poetry’s most challenging forms. Keep refining Aleeza. You could have a look at Carol Anne Duffy’s poem “Prayer,” which is a beautiful example of a modern sonnet. Keep it up.
9.3 played 9.4 in the interform basketball competition last week and both teams played really well. Well done to 9.4 for winning the first round!
