Newsletter for Year 11 Leavers
Here is all the information for the end of Year 11
Your last day at AES
Friday 5th May 2023 is your last day in school before study leave begins.
As is the custom, normal lessons will take place during Periods 1-4, with a Leavers’ Assembly during P6. You should go to the Main Hall at 2.15pm and must be in full school uniform.
The assembly will be the last time you will be gathered together before your exams.
Shirt signing and School Uniform
In the past, students have wanted to get their shirts signed by friends. This is permitted, as long as it is NOT THE SHIRT YOU ARE WEARING. Bring a spare shirt; don’t spoil the fun!
There should not be any inappropriate comments or language on your shirts. You will not be allowed into the Leavers' Assembly wearing your signed shirt, so you must make sure that you are only signing a spare shirt and not the one you are wearing.
Lost property/Confiscated items
All confiscated items and lost property must be collected from Student Services before you leave on Friday 5th May 2023, otherwise items will be donated to charity.
School Books and Equipment
During the week commencing 1st May, please return all of your school text books, library books and equipment to your relevant teacher, or return these after the Science exam on Friday 16th June.
Failure to hand in books will result in an invoice being sent to parents and locker key deposit being withheld.
Lockers/Cashless Catering
Please hand your two locker keys in a named envelope to Mrs Gould in the Student Services during the week commencing 1st May or Friday 16th June (she will be under the canopy).
Failure to hand locker keys in by this date will result in loss of deposit. Do not hand locker keys into the pastoral managers – they will not accept them!
Cashless Catering: The Leavers' Refund form needs completing with regards to monies left on accounts.
Being respectful in the park and the village
As you leave school on your last day, please be responsible in your use of local community facilities/shops and the park. Please ensure that you do not drop litter or behave in an anti-social way. Each year we have volunteers who do litter picking in the park. Please see Mrs Templeman or Mrs Edwards for more details.
Year 11 Prom - Thursday 13th July
We hope you are all coming to the Year 11 Leavers’ Celebration. It is not too late to sign up!
This event is being held at Boreham House, Boreham and is £51 for the whole evening, including food.
The details have been sent out to your parent/ carer, along with a consent form, which must be returned to student services.
You will not be able to attend if you do not have a consent form.

Guide to the Examination process from JCQ (Joint Council for Examinations)
All examinations will take place in the SPORTS HALL unless otherwise notified.
Make sure you arrive 10mins before your exam: 8.45am for morning sessions and 1.15pm for afternoon sessions. If you are late, you may be refused entry to the exam.

- Gallery students: queue by the metal sheds near the MUGA.
- Students sitting exams in S-Block: queue outside the steps to S-Block near the back playground.
- Pay close attention when names are called for entry into the hall. Delays in this process will mean subsequent delays for you, particularly at the end of the day.
- You must remain SILENT upon entering the building, do not communicate with anyone.
- Remember, it is your responsibility to arrange your transport home; buses will not be delayed to cover an examination ending late.
- Do not bring anything with you to the exam other than your writing or other authorised equipment. Make sure you are aware of the equipment you need for you exam (an example is a protractor etc for Maths and Physics).
- All equipment should be in a see-through case only, and should include spare pens etc.
- You are not permitted to borrow any equipment during the exam.
- You must write your answers in black ink.
- You are not permitted to be in possession of a mobile phone. If you feel unable to leave your phone anywhere, you can hand it to the invigilators at the start of the exam. You are not allowed to have any food in the examination hall.
- Wrist watches are not permitted.
- Water is allowed but all labels must be removed from the bottle
Please contact the school on 01277 354018 if you are too ill to attend an examination or have been delayed on your way in to school.

If you are feeling worried or nervous about your exams, here is a link with some useful information:
Study Leave - In School
You are permitted to be on site, to study, in between exams. You will be asked to leave the school site if you are being a distraction to other students, or not in designated areas allocated to you, to allow you to study.
· Entry into school for revision - If you want to come into school during study leave to revise, you must arrive between 8.55am - 9.30am. You must remain on site until 3:30pm, unless you have an afternoon examination. You will not be allowed to leave site to get lunch and then come back.
· Signing in - When you arrive in school, you must go straight to Student Services in C4 to sign in. There will be a board for each form group, with your names in register order. You must sign next to your name and write the time you arrived. You must then proceed straight to L10 to revise/study.
· Afternoon exam: If you have an afternoon exam and want to come in to revise before, you can either come in from 8.55-9.30am as stated above, or there will be a second window of entry from 12.30-12.45pm where you can go to L10 to revise. If you arrive after this time, you will not be allowed into school until 1.15pm, when you will have time to put anything in your locker and check the seating plan for your exam.
· Morning Exam: If you have an exam in the morning and want to remain in school to study/revise when this exam has finished, you MUST sign in in Student Services (as stated above). If you choose to do this, you will need to remain in school until 3.30pm.
· Lunch and breaktime arrangements- Your break and lunch time will be during the normal times (Break:11.10-11.30am/ Lunch: P5 1.30pm-2.30pm). You will have access to all the normal catering facilities and school grounds during these periods. You are NOT allowed to eat your lunch in L10. You can also bring food from home as normal if you prefer. Afternoon exams: If you have an afternoon exam, you will be able to access food during break OR P4 lunch. It would be preferable that you bring food in from home, however lunch facilities will be available to you during P4 on these occasions.
· Uniform: If you come into school to revise, you must be in FULL school uniform (blazer, tie, appropriate school shoes etc). We reserve the right to send you away if you are not in full school uniform.
· Use of mobile phones - we will allow you to use your mobile phones whilst you are in L10 and revising. However, we will confiscate any mobile phone that is not being used appropriately or for the purposes of revision.
· It is essential you come prepared to revise/study. This includes bringing any material you may need to revise with/from.
Coping with exam pressure
It is quite normal to worry about exams, but we know for some, this can become overwhelming and affect your health. It is important during the exam period to look after yourself by eating well, resting and getting lots of sleep.
If you need additional support with coping with exam pressure or you know someone who might need help, you can ask to speak to one of the following adults in school: your form tutor, your year leader or any member of the Safeguarding Team. Call into Student Services in C Block and ask for support. Alternatively, you can use the report a concern button on our school website.
Support for dealing with exam pressure is also available online at https://www.kooth.com/ and SETCAMHS on Instagram.

GCSE results day - Thursday 24th August
· The school is open from 9:00am for you to collect your results. This is the preferred method for you to receive your results so we can celebrate your success, admit you into our Sixth Form if you have applied and provide support and guidance if your results have not gone so well.
· From 9:30am, our Sixth Form admissions desks open in C Block. If you have applied, you must visit C block to confirm your place. You will have the chance to talk to a member of staff to make any final changes to your courses at this stage. If you have not met the matriculation, your options will be discussed as you may need to confirm a subject or Headteacher appeal.
· Also from 9:30am, Mr Ashworth and Miss Whitlock will be in C14 to offer you additional guidance and support for any other college or external Sixth Form applications.
· If you cannot attend, your results will be emailed to you. If you still wish to have a place in our Sixth Form you must send an email to results@aesessex.co.uk with “place accepted no changes” if you meet the matriculation for your courses and want to keep your choices (check your offer letter) or email the details of your proposed course changes.
