A message from Mr. Finkle!

Now that the weather has begun to turn, autumn is truly in the air. I want to congratulate all of the students for another wonderful Homecoming season. I also wish to thank the parents who put hours and hours into the floats and skits to make this a great experience for the students. Adding Channel 3 to the mix was certainly memorable for the entire school community.

I have been receiving some concerning news about drop-off in the morning which is causing safety concerns. Please make sure that you are only dropping off students on the back-side of the school and not by the bus lane. This causes back-ups as well as a dangerous situation. Also, please be sure that you are aware of students as they can pop out from between cars and enter roadways. As we all know, many times they have their heads down in their phones and are not aware of their surroundings.

If you ever have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me at dfinkle@delranschools.org or 856-461-6100 x3005.

Red Ribbon Week

The week of October 23rd is the nationally recognized Red Ribbon Week. Since its beginning in 1985, the Red Ribbon has touched the lives of millions of people around the world. In response to the murder of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena, angered parents and youth in communities across the country began wearing Red Ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness of the killing and destruction caused by drugs in America. In 1988, NFP sponsored the first National Red Ribbon Celebration. Today, the Red Ribbon serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities.

This week at DHS the SADD Club will be planning several initiatives to honor Red Ribbon Week. On Monday, there were red ribbons and the Red Ribbon Pledge placed near the staff sign in sheet. These will be on display later in the week during lunches where students will have the option of signing their own student pledge. Additionally, a daily drug fact will be given during the morning announcements. Infographics will be placed on lunch tables to spread further awareness with assistance from Mrs. MacFarland’s Psych 101 classes.

Alumni Walk

Alumni Walk Update- We are paving the way to celebrate Bear Pride! The latest pavers were installed last week along with the an Inlay from the Class of 2016! The Advisors from the Class of 2017 are working on their inlay design. We are very hopeful this year’s Senior Class will buy a brick and cast their permanent legacy on DHS. It looks like we have established a new tradition of not only allowing a platform for individuals, but also each graduating class as a whole, to leave their mark. Please consider purchasing a brick in order to pave the entire walkway. The link for purchasing a brick is below. We would also like to acknowledge the work of Best Cut Lawn-care and Landscaping for installing our bricks. They have donated their time and talents to DHS and provided their work free of charge. Thanks you Phil Velo and Best Cut.

Counselor's Corner

This Week in Guidance:

● Seniors applying to schools with November 1st & 15th deadlines need to inform their counselor and teacher recommenders ASAP!

● Thank you for attending the College Planning Information Night. As promised, you can Download the presentation here.

Reminders:

● Seniors applying to schools with November 1st & 15th deadlines need to inform their counselor and teacher recommenders ASAP!

Juniors and Seniors are encouraged to check in NAVIANCE what college representatives are coming to Delran. This affords an opportunity to speak with a person from admissions in a small group setting to not only learn about the college but to also demonstrate your child’s potential interest in the school. This is something that colleges track and can support the admissions decision.

● Many colleges also offer opportunities for prospective students to attend a class or otherwise gain greater insight into their campus and academic offerings. For example, Rider University allows students to register to be a “Student for a Day”. Visit https://www.rider.edu/admissions/undergraduate/visits/be-rider-student-day to register.

● Click here for currently available scholarships .

● Seniors and their families can begin filing their FAFSA as of October 1, 2017. Go to www.fafsa.ed.gov to create an account. Click here for FAFSA preparation and help information in ENGLISH or SPANISH .
