Mill Valley Weekly
October 12th, 2023
Hello Mill Valley Families,
Throughout the year, we continue to look for other ways to provide feedback from the school and staff which includes:
- Notes/comments on papers in take home folders
- Recognition certificates (ex: Paw Print Winners)
- Class/Student goal setting information
- Respectful Royalty announcements
- Information shared on Seesaw/Google Classroom
- Student Howl Out phone calls
- Classroom newsletters
- Positive contacts home
- and many more
We value the partnership between our school and families and feel grateful to work with the supportive families we serve.
Sincerely,
Allyce Harris, Principal
Julie Hetzel, Associate Principal

October is National Bullying Prevention Month!
At Mill Valley, we strive to create an atmosphere in our school that is safe and conducive to learning. No one deserves to be bullied and all students deserve to be safe. One way is by accepting differences and not being mean. Being Kind is one of our Behavior Expectations and is actively taught throughout the building. We also have bully prevention lessons through our Second Step curriculum that teaches how to recognize bullying, report bullying, refuse bullying, and the power of the bystander in helping to stop bullying.

PBIS Handbook for Parents
HERE is the link to access our PBIS Handbook for Parents. It has our behavioral expectations, as well as how we acknowledge positive behavior and deal with discipline. We use a distinction between major (office-managed behaviors) and minor (teacher-managed behaviors) which used to be differentiated by pink or yellow paper. This year, we still have the major and minor distinction, however, there are more classroom intervention ideas to help problem solve. If your child is involved in any behavioral incident, you will be notified (phone, email, think sheet, etc.)
What's happening in Phy Ed?
2nd, 3rd & 4th grade students:
We have been working hard at using our foot-eye coordination to find success with soccer! Students began the unit with dribbling, passing, and shooting the soccer ball. We are happy to say that there was so much growth we decided to test out some small sided soccer games. The sportsmanship was incredible to see and we are so proud of their efforts.
Kindergarten and 1st grade students:
We also worked on our foot-eye coordination this past unit with the soccer ball. Students dribbled and even passed the ball to one another, trapping it underneath a foot. Spatial awareness is still a major emphasis as we worked on keeping control of our bodies while navigating open space.
Health Room Donations Needed
The health room is in need of sweat pants or leggings in all child sizes. If you are cleaning out your dresser drawers and find things your children have outgrown, please consider donating them to the health room.

A+ Attendance
In the 2022-23 school year, 87 % of our families had less than 2 days absent in the month of September. So far this year, 91 % of our families have had less than 2 days absent in the month of September! Keep up the good work!
Missing two days in September is the #1 indicator of potential attendance problems for the school year.
Lost & Found items will be donated by October 27th if not claimed
Destination Imagination
We are so excited to kick off a new season of Destination Imagination (DI) in the Muskego Norway School District! DI is an international program that allows kids of all ages to be involved in creative problem-solving. If you participate in DI, you will join a small team with other students from your building to solve an open-ended problem, or “challenge,” and then present your solution at a tournament.
**Would your child like to be involved in DI? Before nominating your child, please consider if your child has any of the following criteria:
motivated learner
likes challenges
creative thinker
enjoys expressing self orally
likes to write creatively
likes to draw and make things
**Would you consider being a coach (team manager) and spending more time with your child?
As a coach, your role is to give direction, not to solve the actual problem. The students are to solve the problem as a team.
You will organize meeting dates and times for team of students to work on the problem in person after school hours or on the weekends.
