TE PĀNUI O TE KURA O PUKETAPU
Week 9, Term 1 - Friday 1 April 2022
Kia Manawanui - Have a Heart
Kia Māia - Be Courageous
Kia Kaha - Do Your Best
Kia Ora - Be Well
From our Principal
Tēnā koutou, whānau, parents, caregivers and the Puketapu Community.
We have been grateful for the beautiful weather this week which has meant our tamariki and adults have been able to enjoy the outdoors and the feeling of wellbeing that the sun brings.
COVID-19 continues to impact across our school as it does through the rest of New Zealand.
Many of our children and adults have been unwell or home as close contacts throughout the past four weeks.
It has been a delight to see them recovering and returning to school although we have noticed that some are still very tired and don’t quite have the same energy. If your child does need a rest day or part day to help with their recovery, we understand this - please keep them home if they need it.
To date, we have been able to collaboratively care for the learning and wellbeing of our tamariki within our teams and have not had to close any parts of the school.
We are in Stage 2 of our COVID-19 response plan, where we are providing a hybrid model of learning to support students both at school and at home at the same time, with classmates working on the same things, whether they are at school or at home.
With by far the majority of our tamariki at school and the staff cases appearing to reach their peak this week, it is our hope that we can continue in Stage 2, but if staffing levels drop too low we will need to make some additional changes.
For example, if we have several teachers away from one Learning Team, we may need to ask students who can stay home to do so and engage with the hybrid learning from home. Students in the other Learning Teams could still come to school as normal. (We have had to do this for the first time for Kauri today/Friday 1 April.)
In the worst case scenario where we do not have sufficient staff to ensure the wellbeing and safety of our tamariki, we would move into Stage 3 of our response plan which would see our school being open for home learning only.
We appreciate your ongoing awhi, understanding and encouragement for our team and we hope this is the feeling you receive from the staff at Puketapu School.
We wish any of our Puketapu community who have been impacted by COVID a speedy recovery.
Lastly - take care of yourselves, your whānau and one another in our community. The 30 Days of Amazing April has some ideas.
Ngā mihi
Whaea Corinne (Acting Principal) and team
From our Students
It has been hard for the kids and teachers that have had COVID. The kids have been doing school online and the teachers have had to set the online work as well as teach in the classrooms.
Even though there has been a lot going on we have still loved coming to school and learning. Thank you to our wonderful teachers"

A nunnery is the setting for this chilling play. Belz wrote it after he heard about a mass children's grave being discovered in Tuam, Ireland.
Two young women, Hahana and Angie find themselves desperately seeking accommodation at an isolated convent, that was once a home for unmarried mothers, in the middle of nowhere as they travel through Ireland on their big OE. Creepy gets even creepier as a mysterious figure known as Briar Faith begins to haunt them, and they must uncover the traumas that lie buried in the place’s history. Two nuns live alone in the convent, sometimes helped by the local mechanic Bartley. What do these three know and what are they not telling? This story is disturbing, ominous and foreboding.
