Nominate your favorite Oakley Park teachers!
Dear Oakley Park Families,
We are so fortunate to have such a caring, compassionate and dedicated instructional staff at Oakley Park! I am humbled by their hard work each and every day. I am always proud to receive praise from our families regarding positive school experiences.
As a way of honoring the commitment of our teachers, I hope you will consider nominating one or more of our teachers who has made a difference in your students' life. As part of this program, all schools select one Teacher of the Year and that person’s name is submitted for consideration for our district level Teacher of the Year. The selection committee requests that you are SPECIFIC including DETAILS and EXAMPLES in your nomination form
Copies of the nomination form were sent home with students last week and the form is linked below as well. All nominations are due by Friday, October 22nd.
Sincerely,
Kristin Froning
iReady Diagnostic News
first of three iReady diagnostics. Our kindergartners will be taking the diagnostic in the coming week as well. As classes complete both the Reading and Math diagnostics, parent reports will be send home for your information. I have linked some excellent resources from iReady to help you better understanding the diagnostic and how to understand your child's results. We use information from the diagnostic along with classroom assessments, assignments and observations to determine how to best support your students growth. Please contact your child's teacher if you have specific questions about iReady.
What is the i-Ready Diagnostic? The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjust its questions for each student. As a student answers correctly, the questions get more difficult. As a student answers incorrectly, the questions get easier. This adaptability allows the i-Ready Diagnostic to identify the strengths and opportunities for growth of each student.
Why is my student taking it? The purpose of the i-Ready Diagnostic is not to give your student a grade, but instead to determine how best to support their learning. It will help your student’s teacher(s) determine their needs, personalize their learning, and monitor progress throughout the year.
SCHOOL MENU CHANGES DUE TO NATIONWIDE FOOD DISRUPTIONS
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, we are seeing nationwide disruptions to manufacturing, supply and distribution channels. You may have experienced this yourself while shopping onlineor in stores. This disruption also impacts school meals, as we are having trouble obtaining certain foods and supplies. Students may notice that we’re serving menu items that were not previously available or listed on menus.
While this situation is out of our control and something that school districts all across the
country are experiencing, we are doing our best every day to come up with solutions to these
challenges. With that being said, we will continue to update our menus online at
https://wlcsd.org/food-service/ as these changes happen.
We will continue serving our students a variety of nutritious foods. Everything we serve will
continue to meet nutrition guidelines set by the United States Department of Agriculture
(USDA). All schools that operate the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast
Program must follow these guidelines. We will also continue to accommodate students with
special dietary restrictions and allergies.
We remain committed to providing our students with the nutritious meals they need to grow
and learn. We appreciate your patience and understanding. As a reminder, school meals are
free for all students again this school year.

Exciting News about Volunteers at Oakley Park
Volunteers may return to our Walled Lake Schools beginning in October on a limited basis. Since re-opening schools last November, we have worked very hard to keep everyone healthy by minimizing potential exposures. While we are very excited to see volunteers back in our school, we want a well thought out plan that does not jeopardize the many things we’ve put in place to keep our children and staff happy, safe and in school.
I ask that you please do not reach out to teachers at this time inquiring about volunteer opportunities. Our classroom teachers will contact parents about any future volunteer opportunities at the appropriate time.
Check out the video below about the WLSCD Therapy Dog Program!
