A message from the Principal
To our Suffield Families:
I realize that this made many people very anxious when they heard about the closing of the school. Before making this announcement, I was able to make personal phone calls to anyone who had a child who might have been in contact with any of these staff members. I will always reach out to you personally in cases such as these. If I cannot reach you via phone call, I may text you and ask you to call me back. Sometimes this might be very late in the evening, so please forgive me, but with something like this, it can't wait! Thankfully everyone impacted seems to be doing quite well.
With this quick change, we realize it required many of you to quickly come up with an alternate plan for your children. We can't thank you enough for all that you have done to make sure that your child could continue his/her learning. It has been exciting to see the independence and responsibility that your children have demonstrated during this time! Watching this happen is true leadership in action!
This has given us a taste of what could come again this school year. We do not know what the future holds, but realize that a spike in cases could result in this happening again. We hope that it does not, but know it is a possibility. It gives us a taste of reality and helps us to plan for what may come again.
As always, you have many ways to contact me and/or Mr. Lynch, assistant principal. We are only a phone call or an email away. We will always be here to help you with whatever it is that you may need.
Thank you again for your continued support. We know that this past week has been challenging for many and we appreciate all that you have done to assist your children with the change. Next week will be easier!
Thank you for your understanding and support!
Mrs. Bookman
Leader in Me Habit of the week
Seek First to Understand. Too often instead of really listening, we are busy forming our response in our mind. This habit is about not just hearing with our ears, but looking at body language with our eyes, and using our hearts as well. We listen to understand who that person is, how they feel about something, and how they view the world.

Conference Sign-Ups
It’s that time of year when we begin to make plans for the upcoming conferences. Because it’s been so long since our students have been in school, this will be one of the most important conferences you can attend. This year, conferences are being held on Monday, November 2 from 8:00-11:00 am, Thursday, November 12 from 4:30-8:00 pm and on Tuesday, November 17 from 4:30-8:00 pm. We will be available to meet with parents in-person or via Zoom. When choosing a conference time, please type ZOOM next to your child’s name if you would desire this option. The teacher will then share the link with you before your conference. If you wish to attend in person, just write your child’s name and we will expect you at school. The link for you to sign up for conferences will be emailed to you later today.

One small gesture can completely change someone else's day! Remember, we never know what someone else may be going through and how something very simple can make a big impact. Take the time to do something for someone else! Suggestions: pay for someone's lunch, hold open a door, pick up the trash in the neighborhood, compliment someone, or send a text to someone you haven't talked to in a while just to let them know you care!

Counselor's corner
Hello Field Families!
Using mindfulness is a great way to help with anxiety. Mindfulness can help calm anxious feelings, help students think through problems and also help them stay focused on what is important. Mindfulness is living in the here and now, focusing on what is right in front of you. Using different techniques, like coping skills, can help bring kids and really anyone to the moment they are in. Using your senses, is a great one. Practice mindfulness by asking your students to use their senses when you are together. Point out 5 things you can see right now, what are 4 things you can feel right now, what are 3 things you can hear right now, what are 2 things you can smell right now and what is 1 thing you can taste! This simple but fun activity is a great way to start building mindfulness!

Message From the School Clinic
Please make sure that your child has a few masks at home so that he/she is not wearing the same mask every day. If you do not have any extras and would like another for your child, we have some in the office. A parent made them and donated a variety of awesome masks. We'd love to help you out!
A clean mask will help keep everyone healthy!

Crayola Colorcycle Program
Crayola and schools across North America have banded together to help kids understand the importance of their role in protecting the environment. Suffield Elementary will now take part in recycling markers that no longer work. It’s a super easy project to help our environment! You can send in any brand of markers, sharpies, dry erase, and highlighters. Once we collect the markers, they will be shipped to a facility that repurposes them so that they are kept out of the landfills.
