  • Shout out to Mrs. Blackmer for helping with third grade and planning writing units for the students!
  • Shout out to all teachers for being flexible and accommodating our third grade students during this time of teacher transition.
  • Shout out to Mrs. Pearson for getting the computer labs ready for PIVOT testing every day this week and printing off student login cards.

  • Shout out to ALL STAFF! We received the following email:

I just want you to know how impressed our ReadUp tutors have been this week as they have toured School 15. Ms. Carter and I have escorted them through the building during their orientation meetings and we have been hearing such nice compliments! Tutors have remarked not only about the overall cheerfulness of the building and staff, but also on the level of discipline they have observed. Students in classes appear to be engaged in meaningful learning activities and seem to be enjoying what they are doing. Teachers are leading instruction and everyone seems to be doing a great job! Congratulations! We are so pleased to have the ReadUp program at Thomas D. Gregg School 15! Thank you for your continued support of the tutoring program!

Sincerely,
Lisa Plank

IN THE KNOW! Information to Plan By....

Weekly Incentive: This week's incentive will be Extra Recess. Students will need to earn 40 points by 11:00 am Friday to be able to earn the incentive. They will be distributed Friday afternoon. Remember...EVERY CLASSROOM SHOULD HAVE STUDENTS THAT EARN THE REWARD!

Items to Turn In: We know we are always asking you to turn in a million things! Tracking down items via email and other sources is difficult and we want to streamline this process. We will now set up a cart outside Mr. Pippin's office with a crate and inside will be folders for all things that need to be turned in. As we ask for items, please turn them in to the appropriate folder. See photo below.

Ethical Testing Video: Every single staff member in the building MUST view the following link for Ethical Testing, no later than Thursday, September 22. There will be a sign-in sheet and Ethical Testing agreement document to sign at this Thursday's Staff Meeting.

Diversity Cadre: We are in need of a representative for the IPS Diversity Cadre since Ms. Itoka is no longer with us. If you are interested in representing our school, please see Mr. Pippin.

Suicide Protocols: If you witness or hear a student threatening to harm themselves or others, please notify administration IMMEDIATELY.

Hallway Decorating Contest: All bulletin boards and hallways must be updated and decorated for September/October. Student work posted MUST be edited and publishable work. This means no spelling or grammar errors and presented with a backing and title. We are having a hallway decorating contest to get everyone in the spirit of keeping our hallways beautiful! The classroom with the best display or bulletin board will receive a Pizza Party! The winning teacher will receive a surprise gift! Classrooms will have until September 30 to develop their displays.

Positive Phone Call Logs: Call Logs for August and September are due by September 30. If you have already submitted your August call log, thank you! You do not need to submit a September log as we will count your PIT Day conference sheets towards September. However, if you HAVE NOT submitted an August log, you MUST submit an August/September documenting phone calls outside of PIT Day to Ms. Stockton by September 30th.

PIT Day: We must make every effort to reach 100% of our parents. Communication is KEY! If you are having trouble reaching a family, please email Mr. Pippin, Ms. Becky, and Ms. Carter and we will do everything in our power to help you get connected.

Please be well prepared for conferences. You should have student work to share with parents, strengths and challenges, and resources on how parents can support their child at home. Please also consider making your classroom inviting to parents. In the past, we have had staff have some great inviting practices like Ms. Jones that served coffee, Ms. O'Keefe served cookies, and others have provided games and books for kids to be occupied. We will set out 4 chairs outside your classroom and a desk with the District-mandated sign-in sheet.

Absences: In addition to calling the Sub Line, it is a professional courtesy to also notify your building principal. Therefore, if you must be out, please call or text Mr. Pippin at 765-749-9790.

Sub Plans: We still only have around an 80% fill rate for substitutes. It is NOT a guarantee that you will have a sub when you are out. We understand that things come up and staff members need to miss work. However, we owe it to the students to be prepared for both situations: sub or class split.

Therefore, each teacher will need to develop 3 days worth of work packets and place them in an easily accessible location in your classroom. The packets should contain relevant classwork that students could complete relatively independently and be enough to last a whole day. Work packets should be complete and ready to go in classrooms no later than Friday, September 16th. We will be around to check that this is complete.

Emailing sub plans and work packets will not be sufficient as it creates undue work for your colleagues who are already working with their own classrooms and groups.

Staff Meeting: Because PIT Day falls on the 3rd Wednesday this year, we will move our Staff Meeting to Thursday, September 22nd from 4:00-5:00. Please prepare accordingly.

Questions?: Should you have any questions, please email the Admin Team at thomasdgregg@gmail.com. This is an easy way to communicate with Mr. Pippin, Mrs. Petruniw, Ms. Stockton, and Ms. Felipe. We will be happy to assist you in any way we can.
