Speech and Debate
Soren Rajani, won 1st Place in Lincoln-Douglas Debate at the Singletary Invitational Tournament last weekend. Rajani, a senior at Hood River Valley, was awarded a $1000 scholarship at Linfield College, the host of the tournament. He also competed in Impromptu Speaking.
Hood River sent a small contingent of advanced Speech and Debate competitors to Linfield, including Junior Emily Mitchell in Parliamentary Debate and Impromptu Speaking and Junior Sarah Wang in Expository Speaking and Impromptu Speaking. Senior Ruby Patterson won 3rd place in Expository Speaking and competed in Radio Commentary. Mason Leavitt, a Senior, took 4th place in Extemporaneous Speaking and also competed in Prose Reading and Parliamentary Debate.
Wrestling
Your Wreagles flew high at the OSAA Wrestling State Championships this weekend at the Portland Memorial Coliseum!
Boys All-State:

Girls All-State:
2nd - Grace Miller 145lbs
2nd - Christine Marquez 180lbs

Highlights include Jason Shaner earning his 2nd state championship in a close 9-7 battle. He is the first male HRVHS wrestler to earn 2 state OSAA championships.
Grace Miller earns third All-State honor and third time to the finals!
Christine Marquez also earning her 3rd All-State honor with a trip to the finals this year.
Boys team placing to ten in the State. Girls team placing top 3 in the State.
"We peaked at the right time again this year. We have incredible young adults in our program who continually amaze us with their work-ethic and fearlessness. We are proud of our end of the season results. Thank you to the community for all of your support again this year. Your support feeds us all season long. We appreciate it!", said Head Coach Trent Kroll.
Theatre News
HRVHS will be presenting two unique plays over the first three weeks of March. Both full length plays, consisting of an all female cast in one (Steel Magnolias) and almost an all male cast in the other (Terra Nova). The crews for both productions have learned to flip the sets between the two productions which take place in both the South Pole and a Louisiana beauty salon. Tickets available at Waucoma Bookstore as well as the door.
