Communication & Employabiltiy

Unit 1

Specific Skills

Technical Knowledge: Is the skill that an employee must have in order to do his/hers job correctly, this skill can range from a basic knowledge to an advanced knowledge depending on what field the employee applies for. For example: If recruIT are in need of system repair to an advanced level the employer will take into account the ability of an employee that can match the skill required to resolve the fault.

Work Attitude:
If an employee is to achieve his/her goals working at recruIT they need to make sure every task they're set upon is to have the correct attitude and enthusiasm with every task that they may face. This is to keep the employee motivated and keeps the work produced to a much higher standard which is more valued by the employer, but this is not the case all the time sometimes an employee may feel that the work given to him/her 'just isn't right' for them and can cause a negative attitude towards the work and in most cases the employee can get him/her noticed by the employer and maybe invited to discuss what the problem is and what can be done to improve the attitude of the employee or in most serious cases the employer will have to take action and fire the employee. So the employer can find the right person that is passionate about the career at recruIT and who will offer a good working attitude.

Health and Safety: Health and Safety is one of the main concerns for any current organization or a newly set up business, because while working at an organization like recruIT and an employee doesn't have the correct technical skill and is to interfere with an issue with the computer system, they can really injure himself/herself and everyone around the issue. Another Health and Safety issue is if an employee is to come to work ill the employee can spread the illness to the people he/her works with and can limit the amount of work that can be produced by the organization because of the amount of people calling into work sick. This is why Health and Safety is so important to employer because it is the employers responsibility if an employee gets injured at work.

General Attributes

Planning Skills: Planning Skills are the ability to set up goals for a team to achieve while working on a project or the ability to set objectives and match the performance alongside the set objectives. The best way in monitoring in what can and can't be achieved is to draft up plan and decide what action to take and to give roles to other employees, showing the employer that you have the planning skills that they need to get the task done.

Organizational skills: Is one of the most important skills an employee can possess, this is because employers need people that can stay organized and focus any task that is given to him/her, however this skill can change depending on where the employee for example: at recurIT the employee must be able to organize files on a computer system and who you must call for specific information. If the employee doesn't have the best organizational skills then it is the mangers duty to organize the work for the employee to keep him/her busy and direct them in the right direction for the best possible future within the organization.

Time Management: Is a type of issue that all organizations face because at some point someone is going to struggle with keeping all tasks within the correct time, in order to maintain the tasks given to the employee and to keep the employer happy, the employer must make sure that he/she goes out of his/hers way to get the tasked completed within the deadline and not to be late to the work place on time and if the employee does all this the employer value you as a person that is dedicated to the job and that your motivated.

Numeracy Skills: This is required at every organization that the employee may work for, this is because having a good numeracy skill helps the employee with all types of basic calculations, So having a good mathematical skills in the work place is more valued by the employer because he/she knows you are more than capable of doing advance calculations that will turn out to be accurate.

Determination: Is highly valued by an employer because if you can show that you're willing to do a task without any repercussions is more likely to get you the career that you want over someone that is only doing the job for the money. So this why an employer prefers to choose someone who enjoys doing the work and has the knowledge to back them up in the field of expertise.

Independence: Is always looked at by an employer to see if the employee can really think for themselves and doesn't depend on other to do the job for them but also at the same time the employer is looking for someone that engages with other employees, so this means there will be times that you have to work independent but that doesn't mean you can't ask for some help to direct you so that the business doesn't suffer because the employee was to afraid to ask for help.

Dependable: Being dependable and reliable is a type of attitude that employers look at very closely for example being very dependable and reliable will allow you to work on more high priority tasks that will help benefit the business and has also the trust behind it, but to get to this position in the first place the employee must be able to turn up to work on time and to also to also get tasks finished.

Confidence: If the employee has no self confidence then he/she will have problems in trying to complete tasks for the job they're more likely to not get the job because all organizations require employee to be confident because the employee will have to deal with customers at some point during their career and being confident means they will be able to face tasks within the future.

General communication skills

Cultural Differences: This skill allows the employee to be able to communicate with everyone in the organization. The best way to understand cultural differences is in the work place this is because the colleagues you work with with will possible be from an ethnic background, so you must adapt to their way of life and not expect the to change for your needs and wants but you must be able to use the English language clearly to be able to get your point across with your colleagues or customers. The best way to really understand someone from another culture is to put yourself in their place and treat them with the upright respect you would like to receive.

Adapting Speech and Terminology:
Every employer wants their employees to be able to change their speech depending who they maybe talking to this can be from school children to elderly people, so for example if the employee was to communicate to an elderly woman/man the employee would have to decide to speak loud and clear and select a terminology that would fit them and make sure you are presenting your message to the customer. To appeal to a whole majority of people the employee well need to talk in a divers way so that the customers he/she is talking to don't become offended.

Question and Answering
: Question and Answering is a type of method that all employees must follow for any type of career that requires to find a problem and fix it with a customer that is a novice in the field you work for, for example and employee will use two type of questioning the first is closed questioning, this is where the employee will ask a question and the customer only needs to reply yes or no. The second type of questioning method an employee will use is a open question this works the same as closed questioning but the customer can answer in a longer and fuller detailed answer

Interpersonal skills

Positive and Negative Language: When an employee uses positive and negative language it can depend on the individuals body language and the ability of the receiver to read the individuals body language to tell if it is positive or negative. In all organizations they expect that all employees have positive attitudes toward their colleagues and customers. if the employee has positive body language then that means you show others that you can do better than they expect and get a task done quickly, so to make sure the employee always have positive body language is to have a positive attitude to his/hers work career and also it allows the customer to be happy which makes the employer happy.

Use of Intonation:
The use of Intonation is to be able to distinguish if a customer is making a statement or questioning, if the employee has the skill to do this then an employer will take interest in your ability to use ranged functions to communicate with a customer to get the best possible results.

Active Engagement:
Active Engagement is a very important type of communication skill because this skill shows that you can communicate well with new and large groups of people. The best way of active engagement is to connect the customer on what you are selling and this shows that you have effective ideas that work well with the consumer market, before the employee can speak in front of the customer is to make sure that your voice will be clear at all times creating a good impression for yourself and the organization.

Communicate in writing

Spelling and Grammar: When communicating over text the employee must be able to communicate well but also to have good grammar, cause grammar is so important while communicating with people over text because this will structure your sentences and will be easier to follow. So if you show your employer how good you are with grammar then this will show the employer your also professional with your English language. So by showing the employer that you are good at writing tasks and any types of written based tasks for example planning.

Is need by employees to keep them on track of what they're doing because without this then the employee will go off task and could cause problems further down the line that could jeopardize the business. So what an employee should do is take responsibility and stop every now and again and reread what has been typed this way the employee can keep focused and keep on track which employers like to see in there employees if they can do the job correctly.

Proofreading and Taking Notes:
Proofreading is a task that must be for filled before the final document is sent off this is to prevent any mistakes been sent and causing huge problems, for example if an employee was to leave a zero of one thousand making it one pound then this could cause the business a lot of financial troubles because of the wrong pricing. Another thing to for an employee to do is to take notes this is to ensure when working on a huge project that he/she can refer to these notes to decide what areas are needed to be done or what the subject you should aim it about. These two type of skills fall hand in hand with each other because if the employee is able to take notes during a talk or a lecture then once the proofreading stage is to be done they have a check list to compare to the real document to see if any key information has been left out of the work.

Potential Barriers That Can Effect Communication

Background Noise: Background noise can highly be regarded as annoying for either the customer or the employee, this is because background noise can disturb communication between two people, this can be either hard for the recipient to hear the other person or the person could lose interest in the phone call to try and find a quieter place to talk.

Distraction can be a common occurrence to employees that cannot concentrate this can be found by the employer in short words like: What was I saying again and repeating the same sentence again. This effects communication because this shows the customer that the employee doesn't care about what he/she is doing if this is a common occurrence throughout the phone call than the customer can hang up and find somewhere else to have the problem solved, this is why an employer will hire people that have a clear mind and don't get distracted to easily for tasks like these because they can help the profit margin for the business to expand.

Physical Barriers:
Conversations to many different people can fail in most cases because the wording of a sentence may not be interpenetrated correctly by the person receiving the message causing havoc trying to explain what was meant to be said and can as waste time and money in the working environment working out a solution for example an employee may not be able to express their emotions correctly to get their point across in one subject so the customer will take this as they don't care why should I attitude making a problem worse.

The location can affect communication for business with help lines in a massive way because an organization will find it cheaper to base their help line in another country which maybe helpful for local jobs but not very helpful if the employee cannot speak a certain language for example English being the most used language across the globe can help most people with communicating to solve a problem together but if this employee cannot speak the language very well than this can drag the process of solving a problem out longer than it needs to be and in some cases customers will become so frustrated at this that they will give up and hang up the phone and will complain to others via the media about how appalling the help lines for a certain organization is.
