The 2022-23 school year is off to a strong start! Classrooms focused on building relationships and routines last week. This week we continue to build community while also beginning our Literacy and Math Assessments.

Over the next few weeks all students will participate in DIBELs and STAR Math Testing. Students in grades 2-4 will also complete the STAR Reading assessments. This information is vital for planning instruction to meet the needs of all learners.

The mission of our school is to empower an innovative, mindful community of learners in a challenging and nurturing environment that promotes academic excellence.

We believe in...

  • Supporting the whole child academically, emotional, physically and socially.

  • Differentiating instruction to meet the needs of all learners.

  • Providing the skills to be lifelong members and productive members of a global society.
  • Promoting and celebrating the love of learning.
  • Developing partnerships of passionate, respectful, learners amongst students, staff, parents and community.

I am very proud to introduce our 2022-23 Aspen Elementary Staff. Take a moment to read the special edition Meet the Staff blog. Please look through this newsletter carefully for important beginning of the year information.

All my best,

Ashley Bodkins

Drop off and Pick-Up at "The Rock"

  • The procedure for students who are being dropped off and picked up by an adult will be different this year. Why? To create a safe environment for all students by making the entrance to school a student/staff only zone in the morning and afternoon.

    • Drop-off: Say good-bye to your children at the rock and allow them to walk up the sidewalk independently. Think, “Hug and Go!” Kinder caregivers are welcome to continue walking our littlest learners up to their meeting area if needed. We have two adults on duty at the rock to help students feel welcomed and safe, and two staff members for every grade in the meeting areas.

    • Pick-up: Our staff will walk students down to the rock and wait with them until they have been picked up. Caregivers, please help ensure safety and minimize confusion for our bus riders by waiting down at the rock to meet your child. This includes kinder caregivers. Any students remaining after 3:10 PM will be brought back to the office.

Looking for a safe and smooth Drop-Off and Pick-Up?

If you are interested in being part of a team to examine and revise our current drop-off and pick-up procedures, please email Ashley Bodkins abodkins@aspenk12.net. Our goal is to get a new system in place by the end of September!

All Visitors MUST Register in the Main Office

As you may know, all exterior doors at AES are locked. We welcome visitors and require that they register in the main office. ASD uses the "Raptor" system. Be sure to bring your license or government issued ID when visiting the school.

Want to visit your child for lunch/recess?

One of the traditions at AES is to invite special caregivers to have lunch with their child. We are planning to continue this tradition this year. Please reach out to your child's teacher if you are planning to attend to avoid any scheduling conflicts. Be sure to sign-in in the main office to receive a visitor name tag when you arrive.

Aspen Elementary SKIERS

At AES our essential agreements guide the way we behave and interact with others throughout our school in every setting. This year, we've adopted the SKIER acronym as a way to frame our essential agreements school wide. We hope that you will reinforce these positive attributes with your child at home.
