The Illinois Career Development Association will offer a one-day seminar exploring how challenges from the world of work impact overall mental health. This program is geared for practitioners supporting clients or students whose self concept or identity has been impacted by life challenges and how these challenges are impeding effective career decision making.

Presenter Bios

Joy Maguire-Dooley ,M.S., C.A.D.C, has been featured in the USA TODAY, CHICAGO TRIBUNE, and on NBC NEWS as a knowledgeable professional in the area of Career Transition. Joy has been invited to the White House twice to share her expertise in the area of Job Clubs. Joy co-hosted a radio show JOB TALK for 7 years and co- authored a book A TASTE FOR WORK . Joy is an educator and therapist who is currently the Director of Family Services for Lisle Township. Over the past 20 years, Joy has dedicated herself to helping people find their voices . She has received many awards for her work in this area. Joy gives presentations on numerous topics related to family and job issues and is passionate about providing Hope to all she encounters.



Cassandra Wirth is an economist for the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) Chicago office of Economic Analysis and Information. Cassandra assists users of BLS data, prepares news releases, conducts presentations covering the Bureau’s products and services, and generally focusses on innovating regional office products and processes. She has been with the Bureau since 2000, with 5 years in the Consumer Price Index program office and 10 years in the Office of Economic Analysis and Information. Cassandra holds both a B.S. and M.S. in Economics from Iowa State University, with emphasis in labor and international development.



Dr. Elaine J. Blair has worked in college student affairs/development for over a decade helping students to reach their highest potential. Dr. Blair is a Licensed Professional Counselor. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Affairs Management from Michigan State University. She has earned a Master of Arts Degree in Counseling from Michigan State University and also earned a Ph.D. in Leadership for Higher Education at Capella University located in Minneapolis, MN. Creating customized environments for students where they can grow and develop is vital. Career exploration as a tool can be utilized to guide individuals toward success. Dr. Blair is committed to providing support systems for individuals that empower them to reach their goals. Dr. Blair is currently Director of the Career Development Center at Northeastern Illinois University.


Joyce Fletcher enjoys working with the diverse student population as Professor and Counselor at College of DuPage. As a counseling professional for over 30 years, Joyce is a strong believer in the uniqueness of each individual. She enjoys facilitating groups and delights in observing individuals gain insight into themselves. She believes that career development and mental health are interconnected.


Jonni Lukenbill-Bowles, NCC, LPC has over a decade of experience working with higher education students in Rehab and Career Centers. Currently working at Career Moves @ JVS Chicago, Jonni practices as an Employment Developer, Career Counselor, Solutions Coach, and is a Certified Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Administrator. Jonni’s favorite role is designing and teaching psycho-educational workshops toward improving and enhancing clients’ life transitions as well as eradicating the barriers that often come from within ourselves.


Lauri Dishman is the owner of ledcareer (www.ledcareer.com ), a private career counseling practice based in Oak Park, IL. Lauri holds a Master’s degree in Counseling and Organizational Psychology from the Adler School of Professional Psychology in Chicago and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Telecommunication (Broadcasting) from the University of Florida. Ms. Dishman also teaches courses in group and career counseling to graduate students at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. She is also very active with the Illinois Career Development Association and the Illinois Counseling Association.
