Connect! Inspire! Achieve!
From the Principal’s Desk
Our thoughts continue to be with all of our families that were affected by recent flooding. Please reach out to us if there is something we can do to help.
Our newsletter this week features the accomplishments of many students. We had a state winner for the National History Day competition! We have never had a student at BMS win first place at the state competition! We had three state finalists for a national writing competition. Locally, we had another winner for an art competition, and our 8th grade We the People team won the Washington County competition! I also want to take a moment to thank all of our students and staff for their incredible efforts on PARCC. There is so much talent in our school and I am always amazed at what our students and staff accomplish. We know that this would not be possible without the support of our parents and guardians.
Parents and Guardians we have a lot of important information in the newsletter this week. Please take the time to review the information below. As always if you have any questions please feel free to reach out to us.
Have a great weekend!
Mr. Willow
School News
ParentVue and StudentVue Update
The Synergy Student System is now available to all Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) employees, and operations have been running smoothly as the Technology Department prepares to re-launch the program to parents and students next week.
School administrators, counselors, clerical staff, and other support personnel have been working to update student school information. All report card grades for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grading/marking periods have been restored.
WCPS staff developed guidelines for teachers to input assignment grades for 19 school days of the 4th marking period, April 3 - April 29. Some teachers maintained an alternate method for recording assignment grades and can simply re-enter them in Synergy. If no alternate record-keeping methods were used, teachers will enter the earliest assignment grades available for the 4th marking period. Teachers will be working with school principals to determine fair grades that take the students’ best interests into consideration if there are missing or incomplete assignments from the 4th marking period.
WCPS looks forward to restoring StudentVUE and ParentVUE access in the next week.
PARCC Make-ups
PARCC make-up sessions will begin on Friday May 18 and continue until Friday May 25th. If your child is scheduled for a make-up session he/she will be told the day before.
Attention 6th Grade Parents
Attention 7th Grade Parents
The 7th grade will be visiting the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore on Monday, May 21st. We are asking that parents and guardians arrive at 4 to pick up their child if they are attending the field trip. Please do not arrive before 3:45 to ensure that all of the regular dismissal traffic is able to leave.
Attention 8th Grade Parents
Our 8th grade dance is this Saturday, May 19th. Only 8th grade students from Boonsboro Middle School are eligible to attend. Students must have registered during lunch shifts last week in order get a ticket. The dance runs from 6 pm to 8 pm. If you have any questions please reach out to Mrs. Hancock at hancoeri@wcps.k12.md.us.
Multi-Cultural Night
On May 30 at 6 pm we will have our second annual Multicultural Night. Students will be setting up exhibits about different cultures from around the world. In addition to the exhibits, we will also have food and music. The evening is very informal and we hope you are able to stop by and visit.

Letters About Literature Contest
Letters About Literature is a national writing contest for students in grades 4 through 12 sponsored by the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress. There were more than 46,000 letters submitted nationwide. Over 1,800 entries were received from Maryland students. Of these entries, 110 state finalists were honored at our ceremony this past Saturday at Mercy High School in Baltimore. Boonsboro Middle School had three of the 110 state finalists!
Congratulations to the following students:
McKenzie Bere – Animal Farm
Erika Davidson – No Summit Out of Sight: The True Story of the Youngest Person to Climb the Seven Summits
Eli Price – The Danger of a Single Story
Our students continue to do amazing things!
National History Day Contest
Eloise Hartings recently competed in the National History Day Contest, held at the University of Maryland, Baltimore Campus. She placed first in the state in the Junior Paper Division. Senator Thomas V. Mike Miller, President of the Maryland Senate, also presented Eloise with the Maryland Prize for excellence in Maryland history. Ellie’s paper was selected for this award from all of the junior projects adjudicated across all divisions. According to NHD Executive Director Dr. Cathy Gorn, less than 1% of all projects make it to the national level. This is quite an achievement and we wish Ms. Hartings the best at the national competition in June!

PTO News
From the PTO
The PTO meeting has been rescheduled for May 24nd at 6 pm. At that this time we are in need of additional officers in order to keep our PTO active. If we do not get four officers the PTO will not exist and that would be a major loss for our students. If you are interested in running for any office please reach out to Dr. Mora at MoraJan@wcps.k12.md.us.
