Welcome Back To School 2018

A Message from District 41 Board President Stephanie Clark

Hello District 41 Families and Staff,

On behalf of the Glen Ellyn School District 41 Board of Education, we wish you a great school year! It was a fun first couple of days back to school and a long weekend to ease us into the new school year!

The summer construction season was in full effect in District 41 this year. This work will greatly improve the facilities and learning environments of all District 41 students. We celebrated at Churchill School prior to school starting with a ribbon cutting co-hosted by the Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce. The ribbon cutting was the official opening of Churchill with an updated secure entryway, a renovated Library Media Center, ADA bathrooms, and some new office/classroom spaces. Learning environments are critical to student success and I am proud that we were able to make these projects happen. Work will continue throughout the year and next summer on the addition at Hadley that will eliminate the last of our portables as well as make some nice changes to the school including new music rooms. I look forward to the grand opening of Hadley next fall. Thank you to the community for your support and also for your patience with a changed calendar and summer schedule. Without you this couldn’t have happened.

Moving forward this school year, the Board has already started talking about the budget for next year and has engaged with the community-based Finance Advisory Committee on helping the district with policy around fund balance. I am proud that we are working together to come up with guidelines and policies to help with the long-term financial stability of District 41. This year, the District reduced the tax impact to community members due to part of the 1998 referendum bonds retiring. Also, the board limited the 2017 tax levy and abated additional revenue back to taxpayers.

As always, we will continue to focus our work on the Board Legacy Goals including items such as continuing to grow as a Model District, building a dynamic budget as well as evaluating and planning our program space. We have already accomplished a lot together. I know we will continue to make progress for all of the stakeholders of District 41.
