WBL Develops Employability Skills
Employability skills help an individual to get a job and to be successful in the workplace. The West Laurens High WBL program utilizes the GeorgiaBEST certificate program created by Georgia Department of Labor Commissioner Mark Butler in 2011.
WBL students complete an assignment each month related to a competency in one of three categories: personal characteristics, interactions with others, or employer expectations. Students have completed two competencies in the employer expectations category: Social Media Ethics and Attendance/Punctuality.
OCTOBER EMPLOYABILITY SKILL FOCUS IS PROFESSIONALISM.
The definition/description from GeorgiaBest of professionalism is “the ability to act appropriately and display the character, conduct, standards, and behavior expected from a professional person; display appropriate language, dress, grooming and hygiene; acknowledge that appearance reflects on the image of the employer; the ability to display proper etiquette in meetings or at work-related functions.”
During October help our student workforce practice professionalism
- That appearance and conduct, even when not at work, reflect the image of the company
- Demonstrate proper etiquette of the job at work

Jillian Moore
Jillian is employed at Red Lobster as a Host. She plans to attend Oconee Fall Line Technical College and become a nurse.
Abby Stuckey, Manager at Red Lobster, has this to say about how much they enjoy working with Jillian. "She is a pleasure to work with, she always comes in smiling. She takes great care of our guests and anticipates their needs and honors their requests. She gets along well with her coworkers and she does a wonderful job of training new employees. She also does a great job of not only sharing knowledge with coworkers but learning from them every opportunity she is given."
