From the Principal...
Welcome Back! I hope everyone was able to relax and enjoy a beautiful week with family and friends over Thanksgiving Break! It is a quick turnaround between now and Winter Break, but we have 3 weeks full of instruction left before we hit 2018! We value every day we have with your children and attendance during these times are not only packed with instruction, but full of social activities that build memories for years to come! Our last day prior to Winter Break is December 20th with a dismissal time of 12:10. This is the end of the 2nd grading period. Thank you for sending your children daily!
We are excited to announce our BRAND NEW K-2 PLAYGROUND was demolished prior to the break and installed over our Thanksgiving break! Below are some pictures of our k-2 process. We are so excited to have the funds raised by our families to replace this playground and are well on our way to replace our 3-4 playground as we continue to host fundraisers throughout the year with the help of our PTO. Thank you for continuing to help us reach our fundraising goals!
This week is Generation Texas Week. Students can wear COLLEGE SHIRTS tomorrow and TWHS, Mitchell, or McC shirts on Wednesday. We are also holding a TOY DRIVE through December 8th collected by CISD Police Department going directly back to CISD students in need for the Holidays.
Have a great week!

Careers: We encourage students to begin to think about the different careers they can choose as they get older.
College: We all wear college shirts and talk about college.
What's next in this road to college? The next step after Buckalew is intermediate school, then junior high, then high school. We discuss transitions of school settings on our educational pathway.
Opportunities other than college: We learn about careers that require training other than a 4 year or above college degree.
How will I pay for college? We teach students the value of saving for their own future and education.
December Random Acts of Kindness Challenge
How To Encourage Kids To Give Back to Others
Discuss ways to "pay it forward"
Brainstorm ways to pay it forward together. Examples include putting money in an almost expired meter or pass along a book you liked for someone else to enjoy.
Text or call someone you appreciate
Talk about people your family appreciated, then take the time to text or call then, telling then so. Talk as a family about the person's reaction and how it felt to share your gratitude.
Make giving a part of your regular life.
Ask you children to divide their allowance into three jars: spend, save and give. Establish a family give jar into which everyone contributes. Show your children where you donate your own money.

With the holidays approaching, we will have many opportunities that you will want to attend. It takes less than 5 minutes to complete the application.
